108A TE Fall 2011 discussion

Before reading Arwen's post, I thought that the author of the notes was the Laughing man, and that the journey had made him a bit crazy. In the beginning of the book, Miranda mentions that she does not know when to start the story, if when the laughing man showed up, or when her mom and Sal's met, or Sal's being punched. The laughing man is in the story for a reason, and I thought that he may be the one. After reading Arwen's post, I am almost convinced that the notes were written by someone who is traveling through time, and while still could had been the Laughing Man, there is some clue that it may have been Marcus;I went back to the book after seeing her post,and reread that after punching Sal, Marcus seemed to have been reading her poster about yawning."It seemed crazy, but it actually looked like he was reading my 'Mysteries Science' poster"(23). In the third note, the writer mentions why we yawn in the P.S. portion of the note. Very intriguing. Can't wait to start reading again!

WOW! Okay so I was just throwing out a theory, but the connection between the yawn note and Marcus looking at Miranda's poster is brilliant!

hmm I'll have to go back and pay more attention to the Laughing man too.

I am loving this book, there are so many layers I can tell I’m going to want to reread it just to see how it unfolds once I know how it ends. I grew up in the 70’s and this book takes me back to that time. The characters are wonderful and I’m enjoying how each chapter gives us a different aspect of Miranda’s life. Her mother is hysterical!

I have a feeling that we need to keep a close eye and attention to detail. I hope we’re not disappointed at the ending.


Still, so many questions! Why isn’t Sal talking to Miranda? Why did he get punched? What’s up with those notes? Will her mother win?! You guys think Marcus is a time traveler and the laughing man sent the notes? LOL!! Who knows! Can’t wait to find out and no I’m not reading ahead….. much.
