In addition to the obvious choices ("The Colour Out Of Space" by H. P. Lovecraft, "The Willows" by Algernon Blackwood and "The White People" by Arthur Machen) I would have to list:
"Paranoia" by Shirley Jackson

"Bind Your Hair" by Robert Aickman
"The Garside Fell Disaster" by L. T. C. Rolt (sometimes classed as a ghost story but I thought it had more in common with Lovecraft or Machen)
