In this section of the book the main character begins her new life in America. She quickly realizes how different life in America is compared to life in England. She notices the differences in the weather, the buildings and the people inhabiting the land. In this section she also has her first encounter with a Native American. She notices how people react to Native Americans. She also notices how the Native American man holds he gaze. After this incident she is warned that people can tell that she is a witch. Rebekah tells her how people in Salem, Massachusetts view witches and witchcraft. After this, the main character becomes apprehensive of her new life.
