Continuing our birthday celebration, here are 3 options for mid-month:
A. Read a book originally published in October 2008; OR
B. Read a book from our October 2008's shelf: mystery; OR
C. Read a book which has the word 'pick' or 'shelf' in title. Plurals (eg. shelves) or variables (eg. picker) acceptable. Further examples: The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle; Handpicked; The Pea Pickers; The Book on the Bookshelf; etc.
Earn 100 points for reading a book from one of the above options BUT a bountiful 1,000 points if you do all 3 options. Remember, you only have to start reading the book/s within the next 7 days.
If you can combine options (ie. a book which met both a & b or any other combination), you are allowed to claim points for both options with that 1 book. You can still claim the 1,000 points even if you only read 1 or 2 books (noting book/s must meet a, b, & c).

The Question:
"My question is about task 5. For items d and e, do we need to have illustrations of children and apples, respectively, on the covers or will the words in the titles work? I ask because I'm reading "There Is No Me Without You: One Woman's Odyssey to Rescue Africa's Children" for other tasks, which has the word "children" in the title, but no children on the cover."
Amy,
5d & e are specifically for cover only. Sorry.

For a book that has witches would the Salem witch trials count? If not then can I assume demons and other under-world creatures would count as monsters??"Trick" or "treat" must be in the title and not the author's name (ie: Patrick) correct? This is a toughie!
yes, yes, yes, and yes... ha haha...
Lahni, I didn't think it should be that tricky since I found 2 on my tbr...
Natasha, I amended task description to be more specific. Thanks! :)

How do tasks 4 & 5 work with Anthology as our shelf of the month? If one story in an anthology has a teacher as a main character, or a witch/monster/ghost/pumpkin/etc. in it, does the book count for the appropriate task or not?
Also, please clarify singular/plural:
Task 4: "witches / monsters / ghosts (by monsters: will accept vampires / weres etc)" -- does there need to be more than one to qualify for this task? Or would Wicked, which I believe is about a single witch, be ok?
Task 5: "Have children on cover" -- I assume this means 2 or more. Correct?

please clarify singular/plural

Regarding the mid-month challenge, would the reference to the main character ("A Joe Pickett Novel") at the top of the below cover meet the requirement for part C?
Would the following cover work for task 5.d (picture of child)?
I cannot tell the age of the person in the picture, but the book is about bullying in schools, so it is obviously someone still in school (high school or younger).
Thanks!

YAY! Thanks!
This is yet another example of why I love this group. I discovered the book Picking Bones from Ash only because I was looking for something with "pick" in it for the mid-month challenge. I would never have stumbled across it otherwise. And it looks like not many people have even read it -- you can tell when a book only has a few shelves in GR that no-one's discovered it yet. But I thought it was wonderful! We don't really have a place for reviews of things we've read because of the ROAR challenge that aren't on the shelf of the month, so I wanted to at least post a link here. My review here .

Thanks, Susan! & I'm glad you "stumbled" upon something interesting through the challenge :)
I've added it to my tbr (looks great) though I'll have to see if I can get my hands on it :)
