Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments eBooks and eBook readers (Kindle, Nook, etc.) provide easy access to multiple books on a smaller device. They allow for easy access to multiple stories that would take up room at home or otherwise.

Physical copies of the books, although thicker than their electronic counterparts, have sentimental value and have been a part of the majority of our generation--as learning how to read books, text books, literature, newspapers, etc.

Personally, I like both. I like being able to turn a page for easy access to annotations and quotes and such that eBooks cannot yet provide. They also have a sort of nice feel to them. eBooks on the other hand are obviously portable, and when your breezing through books on the go, it's nice to be able to download/purchase more without having to go to a bookstore.

What do you guys think? And if you "don't read," you're lying, and don't comment.

Rudy | 484 comments I personally like eBooks a little more. Mostly because of how easy it is to carry a lot of books, partially because books are cheaper on the Kindle and a bit because I feel much more comfortable marking them up (using the options to do so, not a sharpie) than marking up a regular book. But certain books I need to read in a physical form because I read the rest of the series that way and I'll be damned if I read them as an eBook.

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments It's harder for me to mark things and find things for essays and such for school. But yeah, mostly the same for me.

₪Daughter of the Rain and Snow₪ I don't have an eBook or anything like that, but I still like books. They don't run out of batteries and you don't have to turn them off before you take off on a plane.

Jo (Penname8) I prefer real books. No matter how the eBooks evolve, you shall never get the same joy of turning the pages. If I read on an eBook, I'd feel like I'm reading a cheap Internet fanfiction, and not a solid novel. And also due to Cinservative issues.

Maii Ragab (mai_invincible) I prefer physical books all the way. Holding a book in your hands has got a nice feeling to it, and I love the smell of books in general. For me, going to a book shop and looking for the book I want amidst all those shelves, or just browse for fun, is a thing I enjoy too much to be able to give up for the sake of ebooks. Also having my physical book shelves as a part of my room gives me an immense sense of satisfaction. I like my books to occupy a part of my living space just as they occupy a space of my inner self.

Rudy | 484 comments My main problem is I read freaking huge books, and a lot of them at a time. At the moment, I have all five Song of Fire and Ice books on my iPad. There is no way I could carry that on a trip if they were all physical books.

I completely agree about not feeling like reading a solid novel if it's an ebook!

SQUEAK! (Lisa) (fictionheart) I like physical books better... I just can't imagine the books the same way, nor can i do the whole "reading in the dark ruins your eyes thing" with an eBook, cuz it's bad in general for eyes, day or night.

Rudy | 484 comments I find it funny that I am the only defender of eBooks. I could have sworn there were quite a few people here that said they read on a kindle.

Iviana (The Sign Painter) Mʘ‿ʘP (thesignpainter) | 350 comments I like eBooks. I read pretty much the entire Warriors series (that's about 36 books-- roughly) on my kindle. 36 books takes up a lot of room. I love the kindle. I saw like, three people in my lit and comp class open up their kindles and start reading.

There is no backlight to hurt your eyes on the kindle. You definitely need a light to read with the kindle, so they're about the same as regular books.

Cloudy Storms (cloudstrife) | 347 comments But won't you get a reflection from the screen?

I've never tried a eBook, but I won't really. First of all, I suck at taking care of things that have a screen. Mostly a touchscreen. Other screens... That's up to my sisters to decide whether they break or not. Reading books are my favorite, and, if you're like me, Senior Butterfingers, you'll be dropping the damn thing every 2 minutes. Then, BOOM. Broken. Oops, gotta buy a new one. Books, BOOM. Ooh! Loud noise! That's it. For the most part.

But I like how it's compact and whatever. But I feel regular books grab my attention more.

No reflection. I love the screen: doesn't hurt my eyes, no glare. Really hardy, doesn't break easily. *my two cents*

Cloudy Storms (cloudstrife) | 347 comments That's nice. But it might in my hands.

I like both Physical copies and ebooks, though mostly I have been ebooks mostly for the last 2 years. Both have their own advantages and drawbacks. But I'm starting to feel more inclined towards ebooks lately.
You can avoid the glare, if there's a night mode. And all ebooks are smart now, especially with options like 'Go To', 'Find' and Bookmarks.
I used to read on Android, but am now stuck with Symbian. But even Symbian is cool..

message 18: by Cloudy Storms (new)

Cloudy Storms (cloudstrife) | 347 comments HTC has good Android phones. The ultimate reader, however, brain. Without it, could you even touch an eBook? I'm too used to books. Meh. :P

message 19: by Vish (new)

Vish L (vertimus) Every OS has a reader, most of them free. So, getting ebooks to work on a portable device is pretty easy.
I like some books in their physical form. As Ivi said, there are certain sentiments...
For example large books like LOTR and The wheel of time series.

^Green Pnanda O.o i really like e books and physical books but i have a kindle and read on that the most

message 21: by Annabel (new)

Annabel (scifibookaddict) | 1 comments I'm someone who regularly flips between the two. However, given the choice I'd choose a physical book in a heart beat. like some of the other members who've posted I love see all my book stacked up in my book shelf. When I take notes or write comments I like to be able to hold the book in my hands, to see my thoughts on the page years later.

With a ereader, you don't get that pleasure. you might have hundreds of books on there but in my experience you don't have a lot of control about how they're organised, and the screens, whatever you might be told, are delicate. Page turning becomes a maddening experience because there's always that delay that holds out just a little too long and the story is momentarily broken.

Ebooks are fantastic if you're someone who wants to save space, and money. But physical books are a lot more satisfying :)

message 22: by Crowleaf (new)

Crowleaf I would much rather choose a real book. It may cost more, but I know that someday, books may be gone, so I want to know that I will have one of the only collections. Plus, I love to smell a fresh book. It's.... indescribable.

Physical books all the way.
