Char (CharmaineElaine) This topic does exactly what it says on the tin.

So, what would you like to read in December? Let us know.

Remember that if your choice doesn't get picked we can always add it to our buddy read suggestions topic.

Edit 3/10/2011 Please stop suggesting The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It was suggested for November and didn't make the poll. If you want to read it you need to go to the buddy read suggestion topic were if enough people want to read it one will be set up.

I've decided to list all of our former group reads so then you can see what we've read.

Former Group Reads

The Book Thief, City of Bones, Wolfsangel, The Lovely Bones, The Hunger Games, Shiver, Vampire Academy, Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, Life As We Knew It, The Secret Hour, Artemis Fowl, Uglies, Shadows, Delirium

So please don't suggest them. There'll be topics further down the group page.

Also, to stop any confusion here's a list of November's suggestions. Please don't suggest these. They won't be considered.

Novembers suggestions

Torie, we've already read Artemis Fowl. Once you've read it there's a topic in our Former Group Reads section. :)

Is that a book? Who's the author? You can use the tool "add book/author" in the comment box in order to show the book :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

American Gods by Neil Gaiman is meant to be a book that you either love or hate so it could make for an interesting discussion if it wins the vote.

I also wouldn't mind: Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I really want to read Anna Dressed in Blood but it's only available in really expensive format right now. :( As soon as it's out in paperback I'm gonna put it forth for consideration again.

message 10: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) I read American Gods and I gae it 5 stars. I agree that you either love it or hate. I loved it, at least XD

message 11: by Jessi (new)

Jessi | 49 comments I read American Gods and loved it as well althought I felt some parts dragged. I vote also for The Help as well. Been wanting to read it for a while now.

Is it? That's a shame. :(

Do the mods have a set criteria for availability/budget for the group reads then? That's good-thinking - no fair setting it as a group read and then no one can get hold of it/afford it!

message 14: by Jason (new)

Jason Tan Yeah, one of the reasons I bought my Kindle is so that I can get new releases at a cheaper price. But I think we can still suggest them, since if the book didn't make it for the monthly reads, at least we can still do it for buddy reads :D

message 15: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I just want to point out that The Help was considered for the November poll but didn't make it. We're suggesting it as a possible buddy read now. So that's the place to say that you want to read it. :)

I just go with the flow. The books are more expensive in Europe & Chile Emma, so the girls just tell me if they can't afford new releases and we set them aside for another time... or a buddy read. :)

Anna Dressed in Blood is in hardback atm so the cost for me is 20€! And of course I can't get it from the library. Much as I like hardbacks, I like the 10€ price difference more. ;)

message 19: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I'm gonna put forward Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier as my December suggestion.

Yikes! I never really buy hardbacks because I just find them really uncomfortable to read - also, they don't fit in the handbag as well, lol.

I once fell asleep reading a hardback and woke up completely freaked out cuz there was this heavy weight on my face. I get what you mean about them not being great in handbags - I often slip a paperback into my handbag to take with me whenever I have to go somewhere where I know I'll end up in a queue!

I so, SO, badly want to read 1Q84 By Murakami, that would be my vote!

Lol. I feel lost without a book on hand. My handbag usually weighs a tonne because I always carry a book, my diary and a notebook as well as all the other usual paraphernalia. (Takes me ages to find my mobile or my keys)

message 24: by Shella (last edited Oct 03, 2011 01:38PM) (new)

Shella (craftykitty) I have The Help on my Kindle waiting to be read so I vote for that one :)

message 25: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Please don't suggest The Help as a possible read. It was suggested in November and didn't make it to the poll. If you want to read it please visit the buddy read suggestion topic where you can ask us to make it a buddy read.

Sometimes availability... for example, among the suggestions for November was a new released book which is only available for kindle. Not all of the members have access to e-readers or are willing to sit in front of the screen to read an ebook :P

message 27: by Laura (new)

Laura Parry I would like to suggest the following-

- We need to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver
- The Poison Tree by Erin Kelly
- The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

message 28: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Hi Laura,

Can you link the titles using the "add book/author" tool? It makes it easier for the mods when we check out your choices.

message 29: by Lara Ruark (new)

Lara Ruark how about:

Room by Emma Donoghue

i also second: Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand

message 30: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I'm reading Room now. :D

message 31: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) The pillars of the earth have three nominations! cheers!

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeshu wrote: "The pillars of the earth have three nominations! cheers!"

I'm planning on starting reading it this month so I may just be finished with it by December!

message 33: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Bear in mind it may not even make the poll. I mean this is only suggestions. :P

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading it as part of the favourites challenge (off Jeshu's shelf) so either way works for me, lol.

message 35: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Lol, that's good then. I was just pointing it out. I mean i wrote something similar with Room lol. :P

It's okay. We forgive you. Your other suggestions were super awesome! :D

message 38: by David (new)

David This has some amazing reviews:

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Don't know if I want to wait till December though!

message 40: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Barton | 3 comments I would like either The Historian, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, or The Thirteenth Tale. They have been on my book shelf for some time!

message 41: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) So my suggestion for December is: Blacklands by Belinda Bauer

message 42: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Hmm, can I just open up my bookcase and beg for it to be one of those books please ;P
Hmmm, unfortunately have enough books to last me until New Year so can't join in on group reads until they're all gone... but I'm so watching to keep an eye out for good books :D

message 43: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Well what do you have on your TBR? Suggest a few and we'll see what we can do. :D :P

message 44: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) Hmmm, I shall say: Dissolution (Matthew Shardlake, #1) by C.J. Sansom Nemesis (Harry Hole book 4) by Jo Nesbø The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbø The Redeemer (Harry Hole book 6) by Jo Nesbø The Snowman by Jo Nesbø

(yup, lotta Nesbo in there - I'm a late starter to him :P)

message 45: by Nas (last edited Oct 16, 2011 04:21AM) (new)

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Anna dressed in Blood
Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake

Wither
Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano

message 47: by Martin (new)

Martin (Martins_Library) | 28 comments I'll have to second 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami - releasing Oct 25 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami . However problems could arise with the fact that it is releasing in two parts here in the UK and one part in the US so it may not be the best of choices.

So we could read the book that influenced it 1984 by George Orwell but I'll assume most people already have.

And here are just a couple books that I am planning on reading at sometime in the future that might be of interest: A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron Ready Player One by Ernest Cline The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami among many, many more in my seemingly ever growing book 'to buy' list that I have in my bedroom.

message 48: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Martin, 1Q84 probably won't get chosen as it's harder for people outside the UK & US to buy brand new books. They can be incredibly expensive. (Just thought I'd point this out.)

Also 1984 narrowly missed out on being last month's group read. :)

The others are all good suggestions though and will be added to the list.

message 49: by Martin (last edited Oct 20, 2011 07:16AM) (new)

Martin (Martins_Library) | 28 comments Fair enough on the 1Q84. I was going to point out the price could be a problem anyway as even here in the UK it is like £15 for each book.

Ah did it? My newbie is showing :P

message 50: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Wow! That's pretty steep. I don't like super expensive books. That's probably why I loiter in charity shops.
