I just started this one, but it has great reviews on Goodreads, so I am looking forward to a good read.
Another book I own, but have never gotten around to reading. Maybe you'll give me a reason to move it up in my pile.
I listened to this on audio earlier this year. For me, it was a 4.5 star read but I rounded it up to 5 stars. It's quite a harrowing tale. Let us know what you think as you read it.
I haven't had much time to read in the past day, but what I have read is pretty good! So far I'm guessing that this is a book I will like.
I'm glad that you are enjoying it, Lynn. It gets even better as the characters become more developed.
One more thing for Hillary Jordan fans - she has a new book out -
. It's a modern take on the Scarlet Letter. It's dystopian lit, which I find very interesting.

The Scarlet Letter was mentioned, so I suggested reading both When She Woke and The Scarlet Letter. I thought it would make great discussion to compare the two. We've scheduled them for January. I can't wait to read Jordan's book.
This is very good storytelling, a novel about racism and sexism in the deep South in the years following WWII. I hadn't ever thought about the lives of those black soldiers back in the US after living amongst the mind-set of Europeans. I gave it 4.5 stars, but rounded it down to 4 on the ratings. I thought parts of it didn't quite justify the 5 stars in my mind. I highly recommend it, though!

On audio, it was read by multiple people, which is a cool way in which to listen to the story. Each character's voice becomes even more distinctive.
I have not read these books but I just wanted to say that the author will be at our library on Sunday
