Werner In case anybody hasn't noticed, we haven't had a posting in this group since the middle of July! :-) In one of my other groups, one thing that helped break the ice a bit was setting up a discussion thread where both newer and older members could introduce themselves. It helped us get to know each other a bit, and maybe feel more free to share opinions.

I'll start the ball rolling by saying I'm 56 years old, a college librarian, and was born and raised in the Midwest but have lived in Appalachia for 16 years. My wife (who also likes to read --but doesn't like computers :-)) and I have three married daughters, three grandsons, and another grandkid on the way. I've loved to read ever since I learned how at about age 6. Some of my favorite classical authors include Hawthorne, Poe, Jane Austen, Dickens, and Robert Louis Stevenson; but there are a lot of others I like as well, and I'm looking forward to reading more!

Juan (caranpaima) | 1 comments Looking forward to be introduced to and introduce people to great classic books. I'm a Colombian forest engineer (33) and nature photographer, can't live without reading; right now I enjoy reading to my wife (she's a little short sighted and cannot read for long periods without discomfort), sharing many of my favorite books with her. I've been reading some Japanese classics lately and rediscovering my love for Sherlock Holmes (which I hadn't read for over 20 years) and discovering new authors like Neil Gaiman.

By the way, over the years I have realized that while Spanish-speakers like me have access to and are aware of most countries classics (through translations), English-speakers are usually surprisingly unaware of hidden jewels out there from non-Anglosaxon nor French authors. For instance

The Lusiads (Oxford World's Classics) by Luis Vaz de Camões

Check it out and I'll be looking forward to be recommended some good reads!
