Meriko was on the deck of her ship, waiting for them to dock. Jem was waiting on the dock, for a ship that needed fixing.
((haven't read it yet. Have the book. Too busy))Tifa sat in her workshop, her torch ablaze as she melted the two metal pieces together. Her work was precise and meticulous. She kept focus as though she were performing a surgery of the utmost importance. Just as she was finishing up, a rhythmic knock was heard at the door. She knew who it was.
"Come in Tara!" She called. The young girl of fourteen came through the door immediately. Her face was smudged with ash and oil. Ariana smiled at her.
"Working on the bike again?" She asked knowingly. She knew Tara was in the midst of making her first air bike and that usually meant she came into the shop looking like a mess. And she did. Her wavy blonde hair was sticking out all over the place, her clothes were smudged with miscellaneous dirt, and her was was ashen and red except for the circles around her eyes that were protected thanks to her goggles.
"Ya..."
"Did you bring it?"
The girl nodded.
"Ya..."
"Let's have a look."
Tara smiled and rushed out to bring in her scraps of metal and the one large piece that she had already assembled.
"So what have you done so far?"
"Well..." Tara began before launching in to a long, complicated explanation of her work and reasoning. Ari just listened patiently, smiling because she was so amusing and talented despite how young she was.
Damion felt the free sensation of the wind blowing through his hair and shirt as his ship sailed through the air, heading to the island of Rutgaren for the day. They had their base and they needed to restock their supplies. He though about what it would be like had he been sailing home. Not that he could even if he wanted to. His mother would send him away immediately. Not that he cared much about what she said to him. He just thought he'd say 'hello' to Tara, his younger sister. He wondered if she was doing alright. It was just a brief thought though. The ship was his family, or all he really needed. His ship, his crew. And the feeling of flying. They landed and put the ship in its proper hiding place. The engineers gave their final examination of the ship. There were few damages from their last encounter with a military ship, but enough that they needed some time until they would fly again.
Damion was given a list of supplies needed so he would leave on his air motorcycle to the nearest island to get them. 'Looks like I'm headed home after all.' He thought to himself as he mounted the bike. He started it up and was off once again.
Jem followed Damion with his eyes. Broken ship? He perfered if they were close to the island, a lesson learned by....experience. But hey, a job was a job. Maybe he wouldnt even land here, Jem thought, half wishing it true.
Damion landed his bike not too far out of the busy part of town: Lariat Central. A place where the buildings were high and vehicles flew everywhere overhead. The place was buzzing with excitement and happening. He looked around. Mechanics usually weren't too hard to find around here.
Jem saw him, remembering he had to pick something up from town. He was walking towards the shop, but saw the person crash into that person. Jem shrugged, it happened a lot around here.
"'Scuse me, kid." Damion said, and made to move around her. He'd tried to remember where the mechanic shop was around. "Hey can you tell me where the mechanic's is?"
"Please, half the mechanics here are a joke. You'd be better of hiring a free-lance." Jem called over, a rather bold move for him. Probably because he absolutly despised half the 'mechanics', including one in particular. But he didn't talk about him. Bad move even thinking about it, Jem scolded himself.
Damion raised a brow at the young man that approached him. Very bold. Likely a mechanic since he was probably eavesdropping on the conversation. "And you're a free-lance, am I correct?"
Jem shrugged. "I'd guess. But I'm serious, you'd be lucky to find a good mechanic that won't charge you a lot, take to long, etc. I'm not being biased." he said, looking down at his feet. What had he gotten himself into?
Damion eyed the boy skeptically. "I'm looking for a professional, kid. Someone who knows the parts I need like the back of their hands."
((I added this to Cael's profile! http://kingog.home.comcast.net/~kingo... ))((calling him Caelum/Cael is gonna bug me......))
Caelum walked up to the stall. "Need bike handles, brakes, and a new front wheel." He told the man. The man showed around back and Caelum got the sizes and types he needed, paid for them, and gave an address for them to be delivered, at a small run down hotel. They said it would be there in two hours, so Caelum decided to get something to eat first then go to the hotel. He walked along the crowded streets, studying everything. Crowded, dirty, sort of an organized chaos, with children playing in the streets and being yelled at for being in the way, men and women doing what they could on selling and buying. This wasn't the richest place on the planet. Caelum entered a tavern and sat down at an empty table.
"Sir, all do respect, but I could completely take the engine apart in your ship and put it back together before it hit the ground, blindfolded." Jem said, pulling his wrench from his sleeve. "
"Ah-ha!" Tara exclaimed. "I'm missing the calibrator! Do you..." She looked at Ari hopefully. The woman shook her head sadly. "Sorry kid. Used my last one on a customer's bike."
"I'll head in to town then and pick one up!"
"We can both head in to town. All this work is making me hungry." She smiled and Tara nodded. "Me too! let's go!" She put her goggles up and ran out the door. Ari followed close behind.
Caelum got back to the hotel, which looked like a big warehouse with a bunch of shacks all around, resembling a place for the homeless people, an hour later. There were a lot of people in here, though not as much as was outside in the market places. Caelum passed by people and tents to get to his own. The people who owned this "hotel" allowed people the space to set up their own tents and belongings and camp out here for as long as they could afford it. Caelum went inside his tent, and sat down next to something huge that took up most of the tent, and was covered with a blanket. Under neath the cover, his bike was held by electrical wires, so no one could steal it. Caelum got out a book and began to read as he waited.
Madula rode her bike to an island, heading for the town of Lariat Central. She landed and went to look for somewhere to fill up. She brushed stray hairs from her face as she pulled her bike along.
"Oh, that's easy." Jem said, looking in the direction of the shop. "But, watch your step. Our fair city has less than fair citezens. Theifs, murderers gaurds, polititions." he shuddered on mention of the last, not comically.
"Just worry about yourself, kid. I can handle whatever." He motioned to his sword and gun holster. He started walking with the boy to the shop.
Jem nodded, leading the way past the crowded streets, able to avoid most people as he walked. He stopped in front of a tall brick building with the name 'Mech Parts' written on it in paint.
As they walked in, Damion gave the list of materials he needed to the boy. "Find the right parts and I'll give you the job, kid."
Jem looked over the list. "That's easy enough, Sir. I can find that." he looked around the shop, finding most of the items with ease, and the rest by memory. He'd gone to this store enough times to find everything on the list within 15 minutes. "Found 'em, Sir." he said, bringing them back to Damion.
Damion went and paid for everything. "Not bad. Alright." Damion nodded. Why shouldn't he give this kid a shot? He clearly knew what was what and seemed confident enough in his abilities. Knowing that his own sister already had so much skill at such a young age, he decided to put some faith in the boy. He lead the way back to his motor.
"I'll bring you to do the repairs on my ship in the morning. I'll meet you in front of this shop in the morning.
Damion nodded and was leaving when a small blonde girl bumped into him on the way in."Sorry, sir- DAMION!!!!" She latched herself onto the large man in a huge bear hug.
"Hey, Tara... How have you been."
The girl would have said something had she not been so completely overjoyed she could hardly speak, a beaming smile wide across her dirtied face.
"Hard at work I can tell."
She simply nodded excitedly.

Jem retreated to the back of the store with a smile. The man seemed nice enough, trustworthy. But Jem wasn't one to easily trust a person, even when most would. He shook his head, wishing things were different, knowing it was hopeless.
Ari entered the shop moments later and crossed her arms. "Well look what the cat dragged in..." She raised a brow, looking at the man skeptically."I'm just here on business."
"Of course you are."
"Got a problem?"
"Maybe."
"Then deal with it." He challenged, earning himself a glare.
"Ari, it's just Damion. It's ok. He's not going to do anything."
"Right." There was a pregnant pause.
"We're here on business too. Tara, why don't you go find the parts for your bike?"
The young girl nodded and went off into the shop, looking like a child in a candy store.
"You haven't changed, Ariana."
"Likewise."
"So what's she woking on now."
"A bike. First one. Kind of a big deal."
"She's gotten bigger."
"Yeah, kids tend to grow quick when you're away so long."
"I can't stay anywhere too long."
"I know."
"Don't you?"
"She's fourteen now if you've forgotten."
"I didn't."
"Wow, so he does care."
"Get off my case."
"You don't deserve her affection. You don't think I see what you do? What's worse is she admires you. I just hope she finds out sooner or later what kind of person you really are."
"And what kind of person is that?" He stepped forward, towering over in an intimidating manner. She didn't flinch.
"A stupid, awful, pirate." She spat the words out like they were poison. Damion smirked and nodded.
"Good to see you, Ari. As always." He nodded before heading out the door after shouting a goodbye to his sister. He was gone by the time she rushed back though.
Tara looked up at Ari with sad, confused eyes. "Did he say where he was going?"
Ari couldn't bare to look at the girl's face so she just stared at the door and shook her head.
"Hey, do you want to go get some ice cream after this?" She asked.
Tara thought about it, "I don't know. I really want to work on my bike..."
Ari chuckled and patted her head. "You're going to be a great mechanic one day." She smiled. "Let's finish the base then get something to eat, alright?"
Tara smiled and nodded. She went to the cashier to pay for the equipment.
((Wow, long post))Jem couldn't refrain from overhearing their conversation from where he was. So, he was dealing with a pirate afterall. Well, figured. He didn't have anything against pirates, just certain pirates. But that lady seemed to think he was bad.
A man brought the parts over, late, but he brought them. Caelum paid what he had promised and hooked up the box to the bike, and replaced the tarp over it all. There was no way he could work on it in here. He would have to find a secluded spot to work on his bike. He brought out four metal bars from his pack, and attached them to the bottom of his bike, then with a click of one switch all four activated and the bike went into the air four inches. Caelum started pushing it out of his tent, and went on his way to find a suitable area.
