Hi to Dutch. I greeted you in another thread. Now that we have a thread just for this purpose, I get to do it all over again.

Hi everyone! I'm really excited about this book club - just pondering my list as I type. It's my first Goodreads group I've joined so I'm looking forward to getting to know people a bit better over the course of 2012.
Hi Jessamay, welcome. Books, books, books galore all about different cultures and set in different countries. Nice, huh?!
Hello, loved the idea of this challenge and looking forward to choosing some interesting and different books for it.
Hello everybody! I just joined because I love reading books from different countries. I'm hoping to get some inspiration here for stuff to read. :) Making a list is going to be really awesome! What a great idea.
Hello all. I just joined and I have a really dumb question, because I am new to Goodreads too. How do you link to the books via Goodreads that we want to put on our list? I am technically challenged I fear.

Just know that if you start with a long list and then add links, the links will always drop to the bottom, and you'll have to copy and paste it. Try it and see how it goes!
Welcome, welcome. Love your list and your enthusiasm. I know you will love this group. Your thesis might suffer a little. D)
Thanks so much Anne! I seriously hope my thesis doesn't suffer. Is everyone going to wait for 2012?? I am going to start from today! :)
Hi y'all! So glad I found this group...because I consider myself a global citizen. Originally from Bangladesh, I'm now in West Texas. Looking forward to putting together my list :)Just to be clear: we can each have our own lists and read different things as long as they are from different countries? I think I'm going to choose by setting as well.
Welcome, Mina. Yes, everyone does make up their own list of books. The master list is a great reference - you can see what others have on their lists. Also check out the recommendations by country. Have fun making your list.

You already have the cowboy hat. You are a certified Texan now.

*grin* and I bagged me a cowboy!
Good for you. You even have the lingo. Well, I'll bet your cowboy taught you some of that. Now all you need is the horse. Or do you have that already as well?
Anne wrote: "Now all you need is the horse. Or do you have that already as well?"Nope, no horse. The one time I got on a horse, it ran off with me and a cowboy (not the one I married) had to chase us down...so staying away from horses (but not cowboys...hmm, should get rid of the "s" there).
Chelsea wrote: "Ilona and Ann, A warm welcome to our forum! We've all had questions at one time or another so please don't be shy about asking! :)"Thanks!
Mina wrote: "but not cowboys...hmm, should get rid of the "s" there)."Yeah, what about that "s""? Texans can be jealous. Sounds like you're having too much fun in Texas. You drive a pick-up truck?
BTW, I lived in Texas on and off for a few years. I was in East Texas and Dallas. Now I'm in Colorado. Had to get away from those fire ants.
Oh wow, so you're a transplant too...cool! I have visited Colorado, beautiful place & home to some amazing authors that I admire. For me Texas is now home. And yes, I did have a pick-up (so I wouldn't have to depend on anyone everytime I moved)...but then I settled down & traded it in for a family car :) He still has his.
So nice to meet you! :)
Nice to meet you too, Mina. I'm not really from Texas, just spent a few years there. Spent most of my life in Los Angeles and NYC.
Let's just say that I didn't chose any of them for the weather. Southern CA has good weather, but I didn't chose it, my parents did.
Ooh more nomads! My Nomad Resume: Pakistan, Bangladesh, ship, Bangladesh, Texas, Pennsylvania, West Texas
(Ship: My father was a sailor, so spent a part of my childhood on ships)
Part of me did -- there's nothing like seeing a whale come up beside the ship or a storm at sea. Exciting. However, as a kid I found it very lonely because well, there weren't too many families aboard. My dad --the captain--had his and the chief engineer had his.
Anne wrote: "I think a few people have started reading. The only rule is to link your books (!)."Ok, ok. I am gonna link them very soon. I have got the hint.

No pressure.
Anne wrote: "Pragya wrote: "Anne wrote: "I think a few people have started reading. The only rule is to link your books (!)."Cofused. I thought we were making the list now, and reading in 2012...eek, am I already behind?
Anne wrote: "Mina, no you're not behind. Pragya wants to start early."Oh good, thanks :) I can go back to non-panic mode :)
Mina wrote: "Anne wrote: "Mina, no you're not behind. Pragya wants to start early."Oh good, thanks :) I can go back to non-panic mode :)"
Definitely.
Lol, true! But my experience at sea made me who I am today: While I enjoy company, I don't mind alone time...in fact, I think my love for stories --both reading and writing grew from there.
Mina, given your life on boats, you must enjoy reading books about such life. Have your read The Cat's Table by Ondaatje? I cannot make up my mind about this book. Should I read it? Onddaatje's writing is special.

If you get to it first, let me know what you think!
