So! I started the Goodreads page, but I want Ms. Emily to recommend us a reading list. Because she is awesome, and a professor by trade, and.

In the spirit of #occupywallstreet, I've un-privated this group and am now asking for suggestions on how we do this!

Ok, so if we're starting with Gramsci, the clear book to go with is Selections From the Prison Notebooks. The Prison Notebooks in total are huge - Columbia just released a three volume set, all $25 each - so having an excerpted version seems like a better idea.. The translation's famously a little wonky, but it's old enough that y'all should be able to get a copy for not too much. But the new spiffier translation's too long and too pricey for use, I think.

The version I'm thinking of is: "Selections from the Prison Notebooks" by Antonio Gramsci, edited by Quentin Hoare and Geoffrey Nowell, and out in the early 70s. Should be fairly easy to find on places like Amazon or Book Depository...

So, let's all try to track down this book and maybe set up a date to start?

It's at my local public library, so I'll be able to pick it up in the next couple of days. I had some fun reading neo-Gramscian folks in a Crime & Punishment course in grad school so I'm excited about this. Thanks for starting us off, Emily!
