Juli (mrsmarit) | 161 comments Nominations are now being accepted for the November Book of the Month. Please carefully read the guidelines before you nominate a book.

Schedule:

10/5 - Nominations accepted

10/15 - Nominations closed, poll posted

10/20 - 1st poll closes, 2nd poll posted (if necessary)

10/25 - Poll closes and BOM is announced.

Guidelines:

1. Category: Since Thanksgiving is next month the category/type of LBGT YA book is one that you are thankful to have read.

It doesn't have to be a life changing book (it could be) it just has to be one that you want to share with others because it means that much to you.

2. One nomination per member.

3. New or upcoming releases are acceptable as long as they will be available early enough in the month to allow time to finish them in the month they were selected.

4. Please do NOT nominate a book that is part of a series unless it is the first book (at the moderator's discretion a new release in a popular series may be selected as an additional choice)

5. Check the Book of the Month group bookshelf to make sure the book you nominate has not already been a group read.

6. Nominations should include:

Title
Author
Blurb
Available format
Where to read or download

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Had to look a bit because most of my LGBTQ books are geared more towards adults. I do have 2 sitting on my kindle so I'll pick one.
First is Unnatural (Archangel Academy, #1) by Michael Griffo http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/86...
Blurb:
In the town of Eden in northwestern England stands the exclusive boarding school known as Archangel Academy. Ancient and imposing, it’s a place filled with secrets. Just like its students…

For Michael Howard, being plucked from his Nebraska hometown and sent thousands of miles away is as close as he’s ever come to a miracle. In Weeping Water, he felt trapped, alone. At Archangel Academy, Michael belongs. And in Ciaran, Penry, and especially Ciaran’s enigmatic half-brother Ronan, Michael finds friendship deeper than he’s ever known.

But Michael’s only beginning to understand what makes the Academy so special. Ronan is a vampire—part of a hybrid clan who are outcasts even among other vampires. Within the Academy’s confines exists a ruthless world of deadly rivalries and shifting alliances, of clandestine love and forbidden temptations. And soon Michael will confront the destiny that brought him here—and a danger more powerful than he can imagine…

I'm pretty sure it's available in pretty much every format. Am I missing anything?

Kaje Harper | 17382 comments I'd like to nominate Vintage: A Ghost Story by Steve Berman

In a small New Jersey town a lonely boy walking along a highway one autumn evening meets the boy of his dreams, a boy who happens to have died decades ago and haunts the road. Awkward crushes, both bitter and sweet, lead him to face youthful dreams and childish fears. With a cast of offbeat friends, antiques, and Ouija boards, Vintage offers readers a memorable blend of dark humor, chills and love.

A finalist for the Andre Norton Award for best speculative fiction young adult novel.

It is interesting, and well written without a consciously YA tone. It does have sex of a sort, but not really on-page, and is on most YA lists.

Ralph Gallagher | 122 comments I'm going to nominate A Better Place by Mark Roeder.

What do the poorest boy in town and the captain of the football
team have in common? More than you might think. Casper has nothing, but a trio of bullies who hound him, a distant father and an older brother who makes his life a living hell. Brendan has it all; muscles, money, fame and popularity. The boys come from different worlds, but both share a constant desire.

While not the best written book I've ever read (what can you expect from self-publishing?) I really liked how Roeder focused on centers that try and cure people of gayness. Not many books focus on that topic and I found it pretty enlightening about what goes on in some of those centers.

Yvonne (ysareader) | 79 comments I'll nominate the book I just read Knight Errant by K.D. Sarge.

I'm happy to have read it because it's a fun & humorous sci fi style novel starring a gay teenager and a pansexual man.

From pickpocket and con artist to little brother and trusted comrade is a tough transition, but Taro is making it. His new sister, former Marine Eve Marcori, promised his dead mother she'd look after him. To her that means family, home--her interstellar freighter--and a solid future. In four years she has trained Taro extensively; the next step is college. Taro would rather be shot, but he never forgets his debt to Eve, so he means to honor her plans or die in the attempt.

When Eve rescues former joy-boy and current layabout Rafe Ballard, death seems the likely outcome. Rafe is so apparently useless that Eve calls him 'the baggage' and appoints Taro his custodian. Irritated into disobedience by his carefree charge, Taro tries to get rid of Rafe. Instead he gets them both kidnapped by the jealous husband Rafe was fleeing. Though they are off-planet before Taro can act, his training may be enough to bring them safely through--but now he has bigger problems. Forced into partnership--and freedom--with Rafe, Taro begins to see him differently. Kind, funny, and caring, Rafe is everything Taro never knew he wanted. And all he can't have. Eve's plans leave no room for a playboy boyfriend who can never measure up, and Taro can't let her down.

Caught between the sister he'd die for and the man he's beginning to live for, Taro decides it's time to start making his own plans. And if the new skills aren't enough, he'll give the old ones a try.

Available for Kindle & Nook for .99 cents. There's also a paperback edition.
