Erin | 3 comments I will be moving from the Midwest to the mid-coastal region of Maine at the end of the month and would love any insight on the way of life, things to do, places to see, etc. as well as any advise you have! Thanks!

Karen | 3 comments I've been out of touch with Goodreads for awhile, but I could help somewhat.

If you're moving any where near Rockland or Camden, then you are in luck. Delicious food, Friday Night Art Walks, and great galleries will be available. Also, as for bookstores, There are plenty. I cannot think of the name, but in Rockland, there's a lovely bookstore/cafe. Yum

Have fun.

Kit Hey I'm new to the group. I'm back and forth to Maine to see my grandbabies. I love the beach area esp.

Rebecca Smith Hello, I'm Rebecca, and I'll be moving into York County next summer. I'm looking for other avid readers in what will soon be my neck of the woods. I welcome any input as to how a girl from the Deep South can quickly assimilate in Maine, while simultaneously acknowledging I'll always be "from away." :)

Kit I'm also moving to York area. (I've spent most of the past seven years back and forth between South and North.) Maine is like a warm hug, it envelopes you! Just hop right in-the Southern charm wins them over in no time. See all the local "haunts", etc.-get to know history, people and your local bookstores and libraries; you will do just fine!

I would also recommend L. L. Bean outlet to stock up on "warm" clothes and Kittery outlet stores. The cold, long winters are the hardest thing to get use to.

Marianne | 8 comments Hi Rebecca! I used to live in York County and now I am near Portland. What town will you be moving to? You will love it here. You'll be assimilating more to the weather up here lol. Yes, you'll always be "from away" but many in York County are so you will fit right in! I'm from Massachusetts. Best wishes on your move.

What part of Maine do you visit?

message 8: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Smith Thanks, you guys, for the warm welcome. As for the weather, my family and I have just returned from a four-year stint in Bavaria, where the weather is nearly identical to that I'll find in Maine. As a native Mississippian, I had plenty of heat in my lifetime, and I found the cold to be a wonderful relief! We're huge fans of winter sports, too, so the snow is a favorite of ours (though admittedly, no one likes to shovel). We'll be visiting York County again this Labor Day week.

Wells. And I try to spend as much time shopping at Kittery, Kennebunk, and Biddeford. As well as Portland.
