Anybody want to lead this discussion? I loved the book but it's been awhile since I read it. I'll give it a go, though.

Kashi, what are some of your thoughts? I'm assuming they're conflicting hence the uncertainty. Is it about the book as a whole or about the end or something else? Actually, I thought the oddest and most intriguing thing was their inability to see color. I definitely was uncomfortable with be ambiguity of the ending.

Katie (rosepixie) | 6 comments Why did the ending make you uncomfortable? And is this the first time you've read it or did you read it as a kid as well? Have your thoughts changed since then?

Jennifer W | 118 comments I recently finished reading all 4 books in The Giver series. None of the others quite captured me the way this one did. I never read this book as a child. I first read it in a children's lit class in college. I really enjoyed the ambiguity of the ending, though I might not have liked it so much if I had read it as a kid.

I saw the movie last summer in theaters. It had been a while since I read the book, so I don't know everything they changed, but overall I thought the movie was well done, too.

Regina (regferk) | 18 comments I read all four books as an adult (in a mother/daughter book club) and I liked this one the best. I thought the ambiguity was important to the story kind of like a Schrodinger's Cat element. It becomes necessary to the later stories too.
