Eustacia Tan | 6 comments Has anyone heard of the Little Free Library movement? If you haven't, it's basically a portable/tiny library that encourages people to read. I think it's an interesting idea, since there are a lot of people who might want to read but don't want to go to a library.

Does anyone know if it exists in Singapore? And if not, do you think it's possible to start one?

P.S details at http://www.littlefreelibrary.org/

I dunno...the public libraries here have a good selection, are pretty popular, and there are a lot of them around.

Eustacia Tan | 6 comments True. But I was thinking more along the lines of in HDB blocks (those without a CC nearby). I say this cause my cousins and siblings are all too lazy to go to the library. :p

Motheaten | 2 comments Jess has a point there and Singaporeans are spoiled with convenience! It's really about laziness vs. accessibility. Besides a little free library will have a very limited selection.

Jericho Eames (jteames) | 2 comments Hello! I thought that the little free library project is pretty cool! Do you think it's feasible to start one within a HDB community? I thought to just place a bookshelf outside, along the corridor, where it doesn't block the main walkway. Do you think we would need a permit of some kind for it? I mean here in Singapore we need a permit for everything no?

Adrian Tan | 2 comments That moment when any library is at most 30 minutes away and your relatives and family are too lazy...

Public libraries in singapore are well stocked with the latest and popular books from a wide range of topics, plus they are everywhere.

Place a bookshelf under any hdb and it would be gone within a day, you probably need like a specific corner with security features too.

shanghao (sanshow) | 1 comments There's a book corner near my neighbourhood mall (United Square) where you can exchange any book with a book of your own, it's part of the Project Earth Book Exchange movement. Most of the books come from the residents nearby. The selection is small but pretty interesting and it's located in a small enclosed space (child friendly) where you can sit and read. No security features, people are pretty cool with their contributions it seems.

Judith Huang (judithhuang) | 8 comments It would be so amazing to have a little free library somewhere in my neighbourhood! It would foster such a nice community feeling. I wish there were such things here...

Jacqueline SG | 4 comments Years ago, I discovered Bookcrossing then later realised that SG National Library has adopted and expanded on it only to die a sudden death! What a disappointment. But I continue to drop books (with bookcrossing IDs) at the few national libraries with dedicated bookshelves for book sharing.
So if you happen to pick up books with BCIDs, do update on the website www.bookcrossing.com, it could be my books that you picked!
