To follow my rather intense and heavy post about the economy and the state of publishing, writing, and whether we'll eat or not this winter, I just put up a new piece on my blog about the importance of winning.

Neat site, Sandy. We ride English, have Thoroughbreds & a small farm in KY. Still, a lot of similarities. I love the picture of the squirrel in attack mode. Since we have Jack Russells, we never get to see squirrels that close.

Hey, Ilyn, Jim, and Donna!

Good to hear from you. Jim, I used to ride English and stock seat. (Not at the same time!) The Peruvian seat-–look at some of the photos on my blog article––is a 16th century dressage seat. The saddles are hold-overs from that period. VERY comfortable. So are the horses––they're the descendants of the conquistadors' horses.

Thoroughbreds are great horses. We have tons of them around here in Santa Ynez valley. Was a breeding and training center for many years. May still be. My best horse as a kid was a red hot TB/QH cross.

I was interested in your line about the squirrel mode. "Since er have Jack Russells, we never get to see squirrels that close." We must have braver squirrels in KS. My daughter has a Jack Russell and the squirrels on her deck ate her chair cushions while the cat was sleeping on them and the dog watched. Send us one of your dogs quick. nina
