Sandy (sandynathan) | 12 comments To follow my rather intense and heavy post about the economy and the state of publishing, writing, and whether we'll eat or not this winter, I just put up a new piece on my blog about the importance of winning.

It's written about winning in horse shows, with major applications to writers and other unman beings as well. Here's a link:
WHAT DOES WINNING MEAN? Lots of photos from our ranch and the shows. I wanted to share the fun side, too.

Thank you, Sandy, for sharing the beautiful pictures. Congratulations and good fortune on "Stepping off the Edge" and "Numenon".

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Neat site, Sandy. We ride English, have Thoroughbreds & a small farm in KY. Still, a lot of similarities. I love the picture of the squirrel in attack mode. Since we have Jack Russells, we never get to see squirrels that close.

Congrats on the books & all.

Donna (skeets) | 30 comments Hi Sandy,Ilyn, and Jim,
Sandy, sorry to hear about your ankle surgery. I hope all goes well. Good luck with your books.

I just finished Ilyn's book, "Reason Reigns", and enjoyed every minute of the thrills and suspense.

Jim, I am still fascinated that you turn your own bowls and things from your wood on the farm.

Have a blessed week y'all and warm wishes to all, Donna.

Sandy (sandynathan) | 12 comments Hey, Ilyn, Jim, and Donna!

Good to hear from you. Jim, I used to ride English and stock seat. (Not at the same time!) The Peruvian seat-–look at some of the photos on my blog article––is a 16th century dressage seat. The saddles are hold-overs from that period. VERY comfortable. So are the horses––they're the descendants of the conquistadors' horses.

Thoroughbreds are great horses. We have tons of them around here in Santa Ynez valley. Was a breeding and training center for many years. May still be. My best horse as a kid was a red hot TB/QH cross.

So long for today. Thanks for checking in.

Nina | 58 comments Hi Jim,

I was interested in your line about the squirrel mode. "Since er have Jack Russells, we never get to see squirrels that close." We must have braver squirrels in KS. My daughter has a Jack Russell and the squirrels on her deck ate her chair cushions while the cat was sleeping on them and the dog watched. Send us one of your dogs quick. nina
