No, they get detention. It's really stupid but it's a private school and they don't want their students looking like hooligans I guess. Except once it gets past their eyebrows, they have to cut it. Which sucks. My French teacher (he's actually Canadian; he gave us an igloo-building walk-through!! :D) said this about it (with a French accent):

"Long bangs are dangerous! It will get in your eye when you're walking down the stairs one day and then you'll blink and it'll go to the back of your eyeball and you'll go to pull the hair out but your eye will pop out like -- POP! -- and you'll be blinded by all the blood and you'll fall down the stairs. ER every time, I tell you."

You can usually feel the doki-doki (xD). To analyze it, it probably boils down to the fact that you're self-conscious to the point where you hear your own heartbeat. It can also mean a skipped beat. But apparently boys don't get mushy feelings like this. -.-
