Me: Haha Salut in French is informal, means hi. Bonjour in French is formal, means hello. You usually use Bonjour for people older than you.

Me: Are you older than 12?

Me: yes

Me: There, you're older than me.

Me: Barely older!

Me: yes, but salute is used with people of close ages.
