I know that this group is for young adult books but I thought it would be nice to have a place where the teachers of younger children can post their favorite read aloud books or books to recommend to each other for read alouds.

I always loved If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. I did a presentation on it in my children's lit class in college (complete with cookies!) and when my best friend had her first kid, I made sure to buy her a copy.
One the favorite picture books in our house is Pirate Jam by Jo Brown. One of the funniest picture books I've read! :)ETA: Thought of another one...
How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?
I'm a K-5 School Librarian--third year. Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes is a fun read-aloud that all of my students enjoyed, but with the Ks, they made take home literacy bags with the shoes from the story that they colored--http://www.harpercollinschildrens.com... It's good as a modern morality tale, too, as it teaches a lesson we can all learn and be reminded of.I've only read the first Skippy Jon Jones book, but thought it was hysterical and so cute. Has anyone used it in lessons?
