I am curious as to how you see the characters in your head...who would be your ideal movie cast?

I feel silly asking this but not having the answers myself. I will post mine soon :-)

Okay. I've thought about this quite a bit, and for some reason every time I see a picture of Blake Lively in a magazine my mind screams, "Sara!" Blake might be a tad old, but she could possibly pull it off. :-)

idk im kind of getting tired of kristen stewert i kind of though of emma roberts but she wasnt that great in scream 4...like i kind of picture danielle panabeker as emma

I like the "fresh face" look that Emma and Danielle both have, but so many of these actresses are so waif like. It's hard to imagine them being star athletes. :-/

I saw a movie with Paul Walker last night. I know he's too old for Evan, but a younger version of Paul would be perfect. I'm not that familiar with actors, so this is the best example I can give you for my idea of Evan (:

Good call, Leslie! He has the look I was thinking of too. It would almost have to be an actor that wasn't really a teenager. Evan just doesn't seem like a "boy" to me. Maybe someone in their early twenties?

I was thinking Chace Crawford for Evan? And if Hayden Panettiere had red hair would she be a good Sara? I dunno, I think that's more about the way she acts in some films reminds me of her :)

I'm not sure on the actors yet, but for the scene at the end when she is about to die, I can only hear Coldplay's Fix You. While it's playing I can see a shot of just sneakers. Then the camera slowly moves up to his arms where Emma is laying. Finally, the camera reaches a face- Evan's.

This might sound lame, but I was thinking Zac Efron as Evan. Emma, I definitely agree with Danielle Panabaker! That would be perfect! Sara, now she is difficult to choose. But when I was looking at everyone elses, I think Hayden Panettiere would be sooo awesome!

I think the guy who plays Gale in the Hunger Games movie would be perfect for Evan.

I kind of like Lindsey Shaw for the character of Emma. She's tall, has brown hair and eyes just like Emma and has an athletic body.

Jesse Metcalfe would make a great Evan except he's a bit older not sure if the High School student role fits him anymore. But obviously Liam Hemsworth works as well, because let's be honest, he's perfect.

Holland Roden seems like the perfect Sara to me.

I think a good Emma would be that chick from the Vampire Diaries... Nina Dobrev.

A good Emma would be the Jenna from Awkward on MTV.

i think a good evan would be mark salling, who plays puck from glee. but without the mohawk. and i imagine emma as hilary duff with brown hair. i think i might be over glamorizing the characters! and then i imagine sarah as jennifer lawrence with red hair.

Yes! Every time I think of Evan I also kind of think of someone like Finn from Glee. The type of boy who has the 'All American build'. Because thats what Evan is, you know? He's the all American Boy. And the Liam Hemsworth who played Gale would be perfect for it! .....Although he's not American lol

Who did people imagine Rachel to be? I am currently 3/4 of the way through barely breathing. Rachel's character has really developed throughout the book. I imagine Nikki deloach. (She plays Lacey In awkward).

Thats a good question Dani. I haven't actually ever thought about it for Barely Breathing in regards to Rachel and Jon. I'm gonna think about that one now. Planning on doing another re-read so once I get the descriptions of them in my head hopefully I can come up with someone.

I also agree, she is perfect for the role considering how well she portrays a young mother in MTV's Awkward. She was the only person I thought of as Rachel especially the scenes with her drunk and falling over herself.

I really like your pic/ks! Evan is a tough choice, but I'm sticking with the guy from Hunger Games... Gale.

Got the perfect Emma. Her name is Emma Dumont. She plays one of the girls on Bunheads I believe.

What about Jeremy Irvine for Evan? You guys should check him out, he's a British actor, and completely what I imagined for Evan.

As for Emma, what about Lily Collins? I think she's a perfect Emma!

i have thought of this a lot and i have finally made my decision, for Sara it has always been for me Candice Accola. For Evan Gaspard Ulliel when he was young and for Emma Frances Bean Cobain! what do you think?

Oh, I can only hope this will be made into a movie! This would be my dream cast:

This is how I pictured each of the characters when I read the book (in one day as I couldn't put it down!):

Evan: Liam Hemsworth
Sara: Loui Batley (with red hair)
Jared: Jamie Campbell-Bower
Drew: Maybe Drew Seeley..but a bit younger/bit rougher looking.
Emma: Hmm, I don't know. Probably someone that isn't very well known. I felt like I could relate to Emma's character quite a bit (except for her horrific home life) so I kinda pictured myself in her place. Unfortunately I'm not an actress so...!!

Reason to Breathe is definitely one of the most moving books I've ever read and I would love for it to be made into a film.

I'm new to this group but LOVE and OBSESSED with the series. Just finished reading it for the second time and it will not be my last.

I've been doing research trying to find a good actress that could play Emma... I stumbled upon Melissa Benoist... all the names I've been seeing in the previous comments are actors and actresses who are well known and have been on the big screen, to find someone who's new and fresh to play Emma (like she is in the book) would be ideal in my mind, it would be weird to have someone I've seen in A big movie already. Emma is unique, why not find a new fresh face?.

As for Evan... haven't figured that out yet...

Was maybe thinking... Chord Overstreet for Darren Criss for Evan??

It's hard to paint a picture of what we want these characters to look like in real life :/

But I do agree with previous comments that Holland Roden would definitely make a good Sara

Or even Blake Jenner as Evan.
