I had a positive phone conversation with senior management at Dymocks/D Publishing yesterday about redrafting their publishing agreement to better express their intentions and address authors' concerns.

I am meeting with senior management at Dymocks' Head Office tommorrow.

For anyone who doesn't know about the issue with Dymocks/D Publishing's publishing agreement, I wrote about problems with their publishing agreement on Facebook on Thursday night and put an article online (http://auslit.net/2011/12/09/d-publis...). They withdrew the agreement and replaced it with a second just as problematic agreement on Friday. Following the second agreement, I updated the article and commented on Facebook and Twitter. On Monday, they called me, discussed the issue and indicated they intend to rewrite the agreement incorporating my advice.

I hope this will result in a publishing agreement that will be appealing to authors. D Publishing has the potential to be really good if it's done right.

Danny Fahey (dannybfahey) | 5 comments I have a novel published with Dragonfall Press - a small independent publisher from W.A. (I'm a Vic.) who publish fantasy/Sci Fi. It looks they they are about to pick up another novel of mine 0 a children's novel. They are friendly and helpful but struggling 'cos booksellers/bookshops are hard to pick up

I spoke to the Dymocks General Manager of eCommerce today at the Dymocks Head Office.

He acknowledged that some things should be addressed. He said certain things will be fixed, but that he had to talk with their legal counsel before deciding on how the most important clauses in their Publishing Agreement should be reworded.

So, it might take a few days before the new wording of those crucial clauses is released. Then people can have a look and determine if the the reworded clauses have fixed the problems with the agreement.
