I was wondering while we are waiting patiently for book 8 - would anyone be interested in doing some group reads - maybe something like, these writers are like Gabaldon (using literature-map.com) or if you liked outlander, you'll like (using the new recommendation) - then we can chat about them
I was thinking about starting a group reread soon. Maybe the first book in January. It's hard to plan a reread schedule without having a release date. But maybe if we started in January then we could do a Outlander reread in January, a reread of DIA in March, etc. Go every other month. (THat way we're not going back to back and we have time to fit in other books?)
I think a group read isn't a bad idea. I can check out literature-map.com and see how that works. Would anyone else be interested in a Group Read?
I can't wait to reread these books. I'm curious when book 8 will be released? I wish we knew so we could plan the reread better but every other month is a great plan. Thanks Wendy!
Book 8 was supposed to be release next year, but now DG is saying she may not finish the book until then. So my guess is early to mid 2013.
That's my thoughts too.7 books, one every other month is spaced over 14 months. So that should work.
we could always throw the lord john books into the group reads - i've never actually read them, although I have them
That's so true. We coudl get through the others and then try to fit in the LJG books. I want to read them, and I have them. I've only read one.
Good ideas but not for me as I really wouldn't be able to keep up. I'm amazed at how quickly some of you read, even if I read nothing else I'd be behind you!
if we do them as re-reads, i'd probably do the audiobooks again - i'm addicted to davina porters narration
A group read would be fun. It would be the push to get me to re-read the first few books and refresh my memory so I can move on the last few.
I read the first three and loved them, but then needed to take a break for something lighter. For some reason, I realized that months had gone by and now I think it's been almost a year, so I probably should refresh before going on.You know me. I'm the queen of unfinished series. Maybe I'll make finishing up multiple series part of my New Year's resolution.
How you were able to stop still makes me crazy. Ha!! Can't wait for you to read the rest of the books.
Hey all! I was looking around on Goodreads for a book club to join. None of them really stuck out to me. Now I know that we are all reading the Outlander series and possibly even the Lord John series but how do you guys feel about having our own book club? eh?! Not sure if anyone would be intrested but it is worth a shot! What do you say Wendy and Leea?
Sounds great Lauren! I think that Wendy and I were just trying to get things settled around here before adding more into the mix. We will do a Group Read here soon. Thanks for the suggestions, Lauren.
Leea wrote: "Sounds great Lauren! I think that Wendy and I were just trying to get things settled around here before adding more into the mix. We will do a Group Read here soon. Thanks for the suggestions, La..."Nothing specific really. The group read sounds really cool. I am excited for that!
Hello Ladies, could anabody, please, tell me what happened to this discussion group? It almost changed beyond recognition! By the way, what do the * ahead of some of the titles mean?
hey Lotte, Wendy and Leea took over the group after the previous mods got busy or something, and started updating...the * means that it has been tagged as important and will stay at the top of the discussion threads
Thanks Dee.The original Mods have become inactive on Goodreads. Becasuse of that Goodreads has granted Leea and I moderator status to update and clean up the group.
We wanted it to be easier to find a thread for the topics or questions we had, and a way to help control spoiler comments. I know there were alot of members who stopped comming to chat because the group was so chaotic they had no idea where to go to avoid spoilers.
We have created different areas of conversation with character threads, book threads, group reads (where we will do Outlander rereads and group reads of new books) and one for non-Outlander book conversations. ANd if you still have a question that doesn't fit in any of those threads we have the misc folder.
This should make it easier to navigate.
Not sure how the veterans of the group feel, but as a newbie I am so thankful for the changes. :) I honestly didn't comment much at first bc it was a little on the overwhelming side. I wondered if there were any moderators bc it seemed like people were just adding new threads without checking to see if there was one already made for that same topic. So that would be my suggestion, to check before you create a new thread.I am really enjoying this group and you guys really know your Outlander stuff! Haha...I've only read the books once through but probably will do a reread soon. And there was one besides Echo that I was bad and skipped around so it will be good to go back and see what I missed.
Thanks Sara! I'll admit that even as a group vetran (before I became Mod) I had a hard time with all the duplicate threads. The way it's arranged now we can keep archiving the Misc folder topics and the book and character threads can always stay as they are. Just out of curiosity, was Fiery Cross the other one you skipped around with? It was the only one that I struggled through (only the first half).
Were you planning on joining us while we reread in January?
I was wondering about maybe working in some reading challenges (since I am a challenge junkie!)lol!
they could be simple - like read the characters names, so like Jamie - and read a book who's title starts with, or authors name starts with each letter - and do that for all the main characters
I like challenges too! I'm partial to long challenges though so that I can spread them out over a length of time.Quarterly challenges may not be a bad idea. We'll talk about it and throw some idea's around.
We'd like to take a tally of how many people would be interested in some sort of challenge for this group before we create it.Would any of you want to take part in a group challenge?
Leea, the same to you :)Wendy, I couldn't remember which one off the top of my head but felt like it was either Drums or FC. I just looked at my ratings for each one and I think it was FC since I gave it 4 stars and Drums 5 stars. For Echo, I skipped some of the William and Lord John parts bc I was so anxious to find out what was happening with Jamie and Claire.
Yes, I would love to join you guys. That's perfect timing bc I have tons on my TBR shelf I need to try to weed through until then.
The book challenge sounds fun and I am interested in reading the books chosen that I can borrow from my library or booksfree.com.
@ Dee and Wendy F., thanks for enlightening me about the recent changes in this discussion group.I was out of town lately and therefore did not visit this site for about 2 weeks. When I revisited, I was quite stunned by the shear quantity a newly added threads. I simply was afraid of loosing my only connection to other "Outlandish" people; it does not seem to be so, though. I'll take my time and read what has come up lately.
Thanks for your efforts, anyway!
Thank you everyone for being so nice and understanding. I know it seemed like a big change but Wendy and I hope that reorganizing our beloved Outlander Group will only make it better. I've been a member of this group for a long time and it's got through some changes. All I can say is that Wendy and I love these books and we love chatting about them.
Wendy F wrote: "I was thinking about starting a group reread soon. Maybe the first book in January."I would be interested in starting a reread in January. I was planning to start rereading the entire series sometime next year anyway (to refresh my memory before book 8 comes out and pickup all the little things I missed the first time thru).
I like the idea of doing it slowly so I will have time to work in monthly book club reads and TBR books.
Dee wrote: "we could always throw the lord john books into the group reads - i've never actually read them, although I have them"I've read 3 Lord John books. Have to say that it's hard to believe they're by the same author.
Tina wrote: "I would love to join the reread in January. Count me in please."So would I! How does this work, please?
On January 1st I'll move the Outlander folder into our Group Reads topic. At that point I'll post a rundown on how it'll work.Right now I'm not quite sure of the format I'm going to use, but either way it'll definitely start on January 1st.

OK, thank you. I'll be away from my PC during the Holidays, being back on Jan. 6th. Please put me into this group or where can I join it?
I'm new to the site and would love to be part of the re-read. I just finished my latest re-read, so may want to work with topics or discussion questions to pin-point my involvement rather than actually starting all of them again. WendyF, it'll be interesting to see how you organize. Looking forward to it.
Great job on the reorganization of this group I love how it is now and im excited for the group reread, I realized that there is another group member name dee (one of the moderators) so I think I'll be changing my name to deena (my full name) so there are no confusions.

I would be interested in a group reread. I wish I new when the new book out.
Just dropped in here to congratulate our Mods for making this group much more organized and active. I remember the way it used to be with everyone opening topics, some of which already existed and the state of not-so-organized chaos it created. I know it wasn't easy, so, thanks for the effort, ladies!
