Would like to recommend the book: What My Heart Wants to Tell, by Verna Mae Slone. Verna is a granny from Caney Creek, Knott Co., KY. I read the book several years ago in a class for Appalachian Studies at UK.

The Sisters. Just finished this book. Worth reading if you have the time. Its all about the secrets in a family. Would like to know what everyone else thinks of it. :D

The author of this book teaches English at Eastern KY Univ. The book begins in Juniper, KY.

Down Cut Shin Creek: The Pack Horse Librarians of Kentucky, well worth reading! Awesome ladies! I told my daughter how great it was; she informed me we have it in our home library! :o. (She is going to read it!)

One interesting note:this was a WPA project in the '30s-KY women road on pack horses or mules and women in Mississippi and Louisiana delivered on small flatboats!

I'm almost finished with "Women Hero's of WW II" so the "...Blue Beret" will be a really nice one to follow up with. Thanks for your post. I just put it on my e-hold list at the library,& looking forward to getting into it when available.

How did you like Womens Hero's? There's another great book

A Train in Winter: An Extraordinary Story of Women, Friendship, and Resistance in Occupied France and Spy Princess: The Life Of Noor Inayat Khan-if you like that subject. Did you read Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption?

I'm like Women Hero's a lot. A Light and quick read, that's loaded with just enough information, and details to present a snapshot of the individual and spark the reader's interest.The additional resources and info listed for each "Hero" is like a built in to-read list.
I read Unbroken s few months ago after reading Lost in Shangri-La.(another WWII survival/rescue true story-5/stars)
Personally, I found it to be a captivating story of survival. And Louie's message of forgiveness and cleansing ones heart of hatred to be one of the most inspiring I can remember.I get chills simply talking or thinking about him and the strength it took to return and greet his captors with a handshake and free of hatred. Very powerful.

They are going to make it into a movie. Can't wait to see it! And I agree, he was a remarkable man. I don't know how he survived!
