Micaela Davison I don't get why O feared the Omega. I mean did he rape him or did he just beat him raw? 'Cause I was getting mixed messages or I wasn't reading it correctly

Jessica It's pretty ambiguous I think. The Omega certainly has unorthodox ways; I don't know if how far you're into the series but you will notice similar situations later on.

My guess is is that he just beat him raw; however I do think there can be a sexual undertone to it. The Omega, being something that could not engage in sexual interactions (directly), and takes that ability away from his "minions" probably uses the sexual undertones as a form of domination. That is key for the Omega.

My opinion, at least.

It was ambiguous but I got the impression there was sexual violence of some nature in the torture. Even though Lessers are impotent, I don't think the Omega is because he fathered a child (Lash).

Jessica Good point Emily. I always figured that the Omega denied the Lessers the ability for sexual intercourse because it could prove as a distraction and it can be used as a control factor- which, as you said, is probably the way the Omega was using it in that scene with Mr. O.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ The Omega uses the new recruits sexually as a form of domination over them. Lessers being impotent is another form of control handed down by the Omega. Just my opinion though.

Fangs for the Fantasy I think the author has used male rape as a form of dominance before - if we look at Vishous' back story - so I think it's likely

Good point! But we don't learn about V's story until his book, with his three books later. It certainly sustains the pattern, however.

Marcie Burruss i think its def a control thing its a way to keep the lessers under his control and show them who is boss so to speak!!! there is def sex happening here in my opinion

Katie I think there is something sexual when concerning the Omega, especially during John's Book in 'Lover Mine' where Lash describes the sounds of an induction as screaming that changes into pleasurable moans. You guys make interesting points about this sexuality being used to dominate the lessers, I never thought of it that way.

Dhfan4life Omega equals Tiny and the Lessers he creates are his bitches. And their longevity of sorts is the prison.:P Simple. And although it is kind of pervy, I guess it is kind of ironic that the sick bastards that are chosen to be lessers end up getting their just desserts when they are made into said lesser.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ You make an excellent point Dhfan4life.

Fangs for the Fantasy Hmm I'm less keen on male rape being used so - rape as punishment or just deserts is beyond discomforting

I also dislike the reinforced message we're seeing throughout this series - raping men to emasculate them - I won't spiil the incidences among the heroes - but even with the lessers we have them becoming impotent and smelling sweet like baby powder (with a distinct coding of it being an old lady or femnine smell).

This "male rape = unmanning" trope doesn't sit well with me at all

This strikes me as some very uncomfortable coding that we're

Dhfan4life Glad you spoke on that point of things Fangs for the Fantasy. As I'm not keen on rape for anybody, males, females, children, animals or whomever. I was just pointing out though in my last post that usually the lessers are the dudes that are kind of off their mental rockers and are abusers already. So it seemed ironic that they get recruited and turned into victims themselves eventually. But you do make a good point about the raping of men and emasculating factor behind it all. It is rather unsettling on that level. But I guess Ward wanted to show even in a proper world of sorts there will be abuse in one unexpected form or another.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ I'm not a fan of sexual abuse in any of it's forms. I personally don't condone it either. There is all manner of cruelty in this world rape just happens to be on of the forms.

Claudine Rape is about power and in this instance about domination.

Emily i think he beats and rapes them until theyre nearly dead.

So very true in this case!
