Thanks Dee! I must have missed him when I was trying to think of missing characters.I think Jason Isaacs is the most popular choice for an actor for Black Jack. I'll admit that when the Patriot came out all I could see was him as Randall too. Now though (only because of his age), I think Micahel Fassbender would be good....

Or I even think that Ian Somerhalder wouldn't be bad...
I haven't read that yet! It's my Grandma's favorite book and she gave me an old copy she had (My grandpa gave it to her on a date when they were young), so I want to read it. Funny because most people love Mr. Darcy, which is another one I haven't read.I think I'll read Jane Eyre next.

Well Ladies, I just saw Jason Isaacs in a new miniseries on PBS and unfortunately, he's too old to play BJR.If you're interested in the series, it was called "Case Histories" took place in Edinburgh. He plays a PI who specializes in finding lost people. Really quite good.
I do like the idea of Michael Fassbender doing the role.
Loved, loved, loved "Case Histories". I don't know that I would ever go to see a movie version of "Outlander" b/c I have my own actors in mind for certain characters - and yes, Jason Isaacs ten years ago was PERFECT for BJR. Sean Bean 15 years ago was PERFECT for Jamie. I still can't come up with an actress for Claire or Brianna though.
I have always seen Claire as Rachel Weiss even before I thought about movie characters. Even if the characters were "wrong" and I felt the movie could not give the book justice, I would rush to go see the movie!
Diane - that is so funny that you say that, because I have thought of Rachel Weicz (sp?) before, too. She's not a perfect fit for me, but she's really the only actress I can think of that's close.
Rachel Weiss (however she spells her name) always have been and will be my Claire (in my head).Ian Somerhalder is super cute. How tall is he? If he's tall enough -- he can be Roger Mac. If he, too short to be Roger, I vote him to be Furgus.
Love Furgus! I have never had a mental picture of him though but think he would be much finer boned than Roger Mac.
Diane wrote: "Love Furgus! He's short with dark hair and I bet he could pull off the French accent, the charm of Furgus plus Furgus' "dark side"

He could do the part. He can certainly act. But, my concern is that doesn't Fergus get taller when he gets older? I don't think McAvoy is tall enough. Although the producers could always use "poetic justice" when casting, which they will most likely do anyway.

But my memory isn't so great, will have to pay attention to that when we do the re-read of The Outlander series. And McAvoy was cast in Atonement as the male lead. Robbie is described in the book as very tall, over 6'. McAvoy is probably 5'6" in his stocking feet, but I didn't even notice that in the movie!

Okay, I'm throwing my two cents worth in. I just finished watching the newest version of Jane Eyre and Michael Fassbender, hands down, is Frank/BJ Randall.Look no further!!

Carren....having seen pics of him on IMBD, I totally agree with you! Plus he's the right age.

Micahel Fassbender is PERFECT....

Leea....Thanks for posting his pic! Yep, he's definitely Frank/BJR

He's also young enough right now to play the part! Love me some Michael Fassbender! I can see him all scholarly with specs and a cardigan and all evil and sadistic.

Thanks Carren I will check that out. I wonder if Netflix would have it?
Since it's quite new, it may not be, but always worth a try. He was very good in the series. Nothing like his character from The Patriot.
Case Histories isn't ready for streaming, but you can order it. They have other movies and series with Jason Isaacs. I queued a few. I didn't recognize him until I was reading about him on IMDB! I don't think I've seen him in anything but the Potter movies, or else I just don't remember him since I did see The Patriot!

I have a totally outrageous suggestion for Black Jack/Frank... I would love, love, love for ORLANDO BLOOM to be cast in that role. He's got the looks - might be a tad young, not sure. But he's almost always played such a good guy, and he's got the "angelic" looks so that it would be tough to believe that he's such a twisted guy. What do you think?
(Although the Fassbender suggestion is amazing. Not too familiar with him, but he definitely looks the part.)

Orlando...wow, that would be interesting to see if he could pull cruel and twisted. His face seems to always be smiling.
Have you ever seen the new Jane Eyre or Xmen First Class? That's where Fassbender is from. :)
Frank on the other hand needs some sympathy. He's not a bad guy really. So he needs a actor people can feel ambiguous about.
I hate Black Jack Randall. He is a horrible little man.But I love how DG has made him Franks's ancestor... Claire is always trying to reconcile one with the other in her head.
So, now that the show is cast, can I propose a question? Can anyone think of a character in literature who is more evil then Jack Randall?
In an old book, QB VII (Queen's Bench seven), based on the true story of a doctor named in Leon Uris's book, Exodus, sues the fictional author of a book about the Holocaust for libel. The doctor had done numerous medical experiments on concentration camp inmates, then after the war, became a celebrated and knighted doctor in England for his medical work. He is a truly evil person, all the more so because he is based upon a 'real' person.

I think Colin Farrell would be good as Fergus, but only for the later books.
I tried, i really really tried. The closest would be William from "Pillars of the Earth" and Joffrey Baratheon/Lannister.But to be truthful BJR made my skin's skin crawl.I don't know if it can get more evil than him.
On a side note i agree with all who said Fassbender would have made an exceptional BRJ.Watching him in "12 Years A Slave"made that really clear to me that he could pull BJR off in all his sick perverted glory.
