Jenny Schwartz (jenny_schwartz) Self-promo welcome!

I'll kick off with a free read by Cory Doctorow, available on Amazon. "Clockwork Fagin" is a short story from Steampunk!: An Anthology of Fantastically Rich and Strange Stories and it's a beautifully written, wry, Steampunk take on Dickens. Brilliant. I'd recommend it to anyone who'd never read Steampunk -- do such people exist?

I'm sure there are, based on how often I'm called on to explain what Seampunk is. ;)

Coleen Kwan | 4 comments I thought 'Agatha H and the Airship City' was a hoot. Never read the graphic novels, so I wasn't as disappointed as some others were.

Jenny Schwartz (jenny_schwartz) It's a fantastic collection of stories. Steampunk in the Roman era was new to me...I liked how it used the tragic conventions of the Classics.

Eleni Konstantine | 5 comments I've read Leviathan and that was cool - the animals vs the clankers. Just got book 2 from the library.

There's also Gail Garriger's The Parasol Protectorate series.

Jenny Schwartz (jenny_schwartz) I haven't read Leviathan. Not sure why not, just doesn't appeal. But isn't Gail Carriger clever? She's truly into steampunk's fun, and that shines through her books.

Coleen Kwan | 4 comments I enjoyed Carriger's 'Heartless' but felt some of the situations were a bit of a stretch.

Jenny Schwartz (jenny_schwartz) I haven't read Heartless yet, but I'm pretty good at suspending disbelief to enjoy a story :)

Eleni Konstantine | 5 comments Me too, Jenny.

Jenny Schwartz (jenny_schwartz) I wonder if that ability to suspend disbelief makes us favourites with politicians? (kidding!)

I picked up Boneshaker (The Clockwork Century, #1) by Cherie Priest on a short $2.99 sale on Amazon. I'm looking forward to reading it. Steampunk is intro'ing me to so many great authors, and other artists, too. I love the steampunk jewellery on Etsy.

Claire Robyns (clairerobyns) | 1 comments The Parasol Protectorate series introduced me to steampunk :)
Jenny, I've had my eye on Boneshaker, am waiting for it to come out on Kindle.
And has anyone mentioned The Iron Duke?

I can't believe I've only been reading Steampunk for a year, I feel as if I've read just about every book on any of the steampunk lists i've found, so I'm eagerly watching this topic to find anything new. And, of course, can't wait for onslaught of Steampunk coming from Carina Press in December :)

Jenny Schwartz (jenny_schwartz) Steampunk is insidious. Writing Steampunk is a great how to write it guide, but as a reader of steampunk, I also enjoyed the appendix of steampunk books. It's amazing how many books I've enjoyed in the past without realising they're steampunk. Mercedes Lackey's The Fire Rose was one. Plus, as you say, Carina Press is doing an awesome job of introducing more steampunk to the world! I love sneaking in a couple of great new books to read over the holidays :)
