Very thoughtful review. I'm going to have to give Laymon a 2nd look as I didn't care for the first book I read by him. I just ordered another one from the library.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) I just read my first story by him in Triage by Jack Ketchum . It was sick, but like a horror movie I liked it. Am definitely interested in trying him again :)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) Cool! I thought the middle story by Edward Lee was pretty good too :)

Thanks, Debra! Did you read The Woods Are Dark? If not, I'd give that one a shot.

I haven't read that, Kit. I should check it out one of these days. That book was edited by my main editor, Don D'Auria, who used to be at Leisure and is now at Samhain.

I'm sorry to say that both The Traveling Vampire Show and Island were not at all to my taste. In both books there is an obsession with buff women with great boobs and booty, and the lusty musings of juveniles. I MAY try one more, but at the moment I'm not impressed. I had returned The Woods Are Dark without reading it, as it was due back at the library and I'd lost interest in Laymon based on 2 bad experiences. I'm not a prude, mind you. But constant sexual obsessing of teenage boys just doesn't make for interesting reading, IMHO.

I have Triage. I have hopes it might change my mind about Laymon.
