How about Yuganta by Irawati Karve? Its not a new book but its a really fascinating read and its very interesting to discuss because of the reactions it gets from readers.

Or is it more of a study of the characters in Mahabharat?

Yes you're right, its a study of the characters of the Mahabharata but from a refreshingly different perspective. Its a fantastic read and doesn't matter whether you have read the original epic or not, although the discussion will be even better if most readers have. I haven't read Immortals of Meluha yet so don't know if there's any similarity there.
Manasi, I haven't heard of this book before and now I want to get my hands on this book. Sounds very interesting.

In fact we had this book as part of our MBA too, several management and philosophy lessons in there. Would love to discuss it with others if its selected for December.
Mahabharata has lead to creations of so many books (Palace of illusions, The great indian novel, Yuganta) and I dont know how many more...also few movies...what a rich piece of literature!

The author has tried to analyse characters based on the facts mentioned in Mahabharta. For eg (sorry if i am revealing too much) Bhishma age at time when the Ulitmate war is fought is calculated :)

Mahabharatha from Bhima's POV...
