Also, do you have some sort of training dummy or does some poor sod have to defend themselves against you? ;-)
Maria dont' take this the wrong way but I just had this image of you taking down two guys in an alleyway, frowning and saying 'Okay guys now attack me from the front with a knife. And remember to write down your thoughts on my attacking you before the police take you away okay?' XD
LOL - only two guys?? Lexie, I can handle four poor sods at least ;> I have a brown belt in Isshinryu Karate and my training included self-defense moves - so I use them for some of my scenes.
I do read dialogue aloud - it really helps to hear it so I can avoid clunky phrases. Not so much with Character movement unless it's complex or there are a lot of people in the scene.
My sparring partner tends to be invisible (not many people are home during the day), but I do ask my kickboxing teacher (who is a black belt) questions and she has a tendency to use me to demonstrate her answer!
Maria
WOW!!! I didn't know that Maria that is very impressive. I would also Love to learn Kickboxing, always have hahaha
I find myself wishing I could kick booty like Yelena can! All I know how to do it incapacitate someone and run away. Haha. "Hit and get" as Janco might say. And I guess that's better than nothing, but I hope one day to pick up aikido.
I've never been in a fight really but I don't mind fighting dirty if need be. Going for soft spots... It'd take a lot of kickboxing lessons to get up to Yelena's kicking butt level.
yes yes that sounds good to me, I don't fight a lot either I would just like to know that if I had to my short self could :)
I highly recommend taking a women's self-defense class to everyone! I took one with some friends not too long ago and learned so much I didn't even know I didn't know! Very practical knowledge every girl should have.I remember one of the instructors would dress up in thick padding and turn off the lights and make us face a wall. Then he'd sneak up and grab you and wouldn't let you go until you beat him off haha. Let's just say I was upside down at some points. Make some time to learn how to defend yourself!
That sounds like fun! I really need to take one of those myself. I've got pepper spray, thankfully haven't had to use it, but it would be a good idea to do that. I'll have to look around the area and see where they are offering them.
The course I took was at a shooting range (haha). But I know that might bother some people so I'm sure there are other places that offer something. :) Make sure it's not all theory tho! Cause that'll fly right out of your brain under duress. :P
Speaking of shooting. I told my fiance (since he's into guns) if he wants to keep a gun at our place eventually, I need him to teach me how to shoot one. I'll search around the area for self-defense. Maybe the park district will have some offered.

Meme wrote:Well now taking a class where you actually get to beat up a guy and NOT get in to trouble for it hmmmm I think that is one for me LOL That would be a ton of fun ahahah. Especially one of my ex-boyfriends would be nice. I'm not completely looking forward to shooting a gun, but I need to know how to use one if we're going to have one in our house.
That is why hubby wants me to learn we have a lot of guns in the house and when he is gone for a couple of days he wants me to be able to defend myself
AWWW no don't tell me that Thu you make me feel old LOL, but I have been around guns my whole life, they still scare me a little but not so bad that I cant learn to use them.
I bet your not old Meme, I'm just like really young. I think guns scare me because of some of the shows I watch like I would hate to be threatened by a gun
Guns scare me a bit too Thu, but my fiance is all about them. He's not old enough for a real one yet, but he has bebe guns that are loaded and I'm even a little too weary to handle those. I just know I need to know how to handle one if they're going to be around me.
Hey.. we've got a baseball bat next to the bed in my apartment.. I know I can use that. I have a small one stuck beneath my drivers seat in case of emergencies... my fiance is a wee bit paranoid...
i ment golf hahha but i think its really weird...like if someone has a gun would you really try to fight them with a golf club?
Thu wrote: "i ment golf hahha but i think its really weird...like if someone has a gun would you really try to fight them with a golf club?"I have to say yes I would because you will throw them a surprise crazy lady with golf clubs going against gun who will come out the winner LOL
Thu wrote: "hahaha I guess...I would just run away in zig-zags while calling 911"The sad part is I would probably forget to call 911 LOL yes I have real issues
I just like to not think about guns being pointed at me. I hope some guy is stupid enough to try something without a weapon so I can bop him over the head with my bat muahahah.

yeah don't you wish guns were never invented? that would be great but i think its really the USA where people have to worry about guns. My french teacher told us that she didn't have to worry about guns until she moved to the USA
NO I like guns and it makes getting food to eat a lot easier, although you can use a bow and I am just now learning how to use that, its going to be interesting LOL, its not the guns fault that people are crazy LOL
hahaha i guess but its still scary to walk around in like a dark ally well i've never done that before but imagining it is scary.
Thu wrote: "hahaha i guess but its still scary to walk around in like a dark ally well i've never done that before but imagining it is scary."LOL yes I bet it is there are a lot of crazy people around now a days
It is scary. Or when you think someone is following you in their car on your way home.. that scared me last night when these people turned around behind me after I did cause I missed my turn. But it was a false alarm.
I have had that happen before, you hurry up to get in front of them or try to lose them then find a place turn of your lights and watch to see if they slow down when they pass you it really is scary
IT is! They ended up parking next to me at my apartment, but headed to a different building, hollering drunkenly. Maybe they thought I was as drunk as them and were trying to find some one to party with who knows.
Kristen wrote: "AHAHAHA maybe. There was ice on the street, so I was swerving out a lot too... "OK maybe they just wanted to be where the load people where LOL
