Hi Rainy!
I was very lucky. My agent found a publisher for the series before I'd even finished the first book :).
I had always thought of it as a trilogy, though, so that part came naturally - I just had to flesh out the stories into more detail, which also came naturally as the story and the characters grew. Things did change slightly from my original ideas as I wrote, but I think this is inevitable as the world and the characters always develop more as I write.
