I loved recomending the The Lightning Thief- it's an especially great book for boys in that age group. For girls, I don't really think there's anything wrong with Ramona (Ramona the Brave), but I loved the The Boxcar ChildrenThat being said, I always loved books even as a kid, so maybe there's something more that needs to pull kids in if they are not already readers. I notice a lot of parents buying the movie tie in novels, for Spiderman/Hannah Montana- maybe the star appeal pulls a reluctant reader out.
i wasnt really interested in reading books before. i thought it was boring really. i used to just watch movies and draw a lot until i got my hands on twilight. yes, twilight. ahaha. it got me to loving books. and yes, im a girl. ahaha. so i guess for reluctant teen girl readers, it would be twilight. :D
Hmm... How about The Door Within for those who like The Chronicles of Narnia? I'm trying to remember what the young boys borrow at the library. Lightening Thief and Diary of a Wimpy Kid usually. Maybe Spiderwick (The Spiderwick Chronicles Boxed Set) since it's so short.
