Hi Sara,
I read a few books on Cixi the last empress of China, and checked out quite a few websites about her life and also about Chinese history and Chinese life in that time period. My favorite book about her was Sterling Seagrave's "Dragon Lady—The LIfe and Legend of the Last Empress of China" which was very detailed and well-written.

Hi Natasha -Thank you. Since I also write non-fiction, it's interesting to see how others track down the information, what sources they use, and whether or not they had to find an current expert to check out anything.
Hi Sara,
I didn't get an expert to vet the book, but the publisher has a copy editor who reviewed all the facts and compared them to our resources to make sure they were accurate (as listed in the resources we used). I found out that as I read different resources, sometimes there was conflicting information, and I either presented a little of both sides or used the info. that was most commonly believed to be true.
