The book dragged on a bit for me....I think I got a bit bored about half way through. Not my favourite Persephone, even though I'm not averse to books with no 'plot'. What did you make of it, Gina?
Yes, I agree, Laura--it took me a while to get through this one. I didn't find the relationships between Catherine and her husband and children to be very compelling. It's supposed to be an autobiographical book though, so I guess that's what their relationship was like!
Although many of the Persephone books have to do with the war and can be pretty depressing, I do appreciate knowing more about this time since I haven't lived through a war. It's easy to take things for granted, and a reminder of past wars helps keep things in perspective.
