Rowan (rowanintheskywithdiamonds) | 108 comments I don't really have time to post my opinion right now, so I'll post my views on this matter later - But how do all you guys feel about Euthanasia?

Rowan (rowanintheskywithdiamonds) | 108 comments Euthanasia in animals I'm iffy on. I don't think it's really right, considering they can't give their consent.

But, here's where I am on the matter:

*I don't think it's right in animals unless there is no chance of them recovering or if they will die in pain eventually anyway.

*I support Euthanasia WITHOUT consent in humans if the person is brain-dead or in a coma on life-support with no chance of recovery. (I don't think that even actually counts as Euthanasia, as the person would die without the life-support anyway.)

*I support consented Euthanasia very much so, as long as the person has a terminal illness, or an incurable chronic illness that is causing them a lot of pain that can not be stopped, or is completely paralyed etc.

So there you go...That's my view on the matter.

Oh, and stopping treatment and allowing a person to die is NOT Euthanasia - That is HOSPICE or Pallative care and it is a very common and very much legal practice.

Euthanasia is simply assisted death, and literally means "good death" in Acient Greek.

Eric▲ | 716 comments wow.
so, if YOU had no pain at al, but say, were parralyxed, would YOU want to be killed?

message 5: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments sad.
so very sad.
so sad because there are lots of legal forms of murder!

message 6: by Rowan (new)

Rowan (rowanintheskywithdiamonds) | 108 comments "so, if YOU had no pain at al, but say, were parralyxed, would YOU want to be killed?"

Probably not, but people do. Hence why I said CONSENTED Human Euthanasia.

And Euthanasia is not legal in most places - That is the debate. Many terminally or chronically ill people travel out of the country to seek it.

There is a woman over here who has MS and she has been in the news lately because she is considering Euthanasia if her condition becomes unbearable and she is trying to find out if her husband will be prosecuted if he helps her get to Switzerland (where it is legal) to seek it. Not suprisingly, she's not getting any straight answers from this backwards system.

message 7: by Rowan (new)

Rowan (rowanintheskywithdiamonds) | 108 comments I'm not saying we should FORCE people to die. I'm say it should be legal for people to have a RIGHT to die through Euthanasia.

message 8: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments oh. sorry. i thought you said "*I support Euthanasia WITHOUT consent"

Rowan (rowanintheskywithdiamonds) | 108 comments "oh. sorry. i thought you said "*I support Euthanasia WITHOUT consent""

I do, in the case of permanent vegative state or being on life-support with no chance of recovery. (Is that even Euthanasia? Meh, I don't think it is, but whatever.)

Though, I'm really quite suprised that you Christians are actually agreeing with me to some extent - Isn't suicide supposed to a sin?

Ecclesiastes
OR, THE PREACHER
3

A Time for Everything
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth?
10 ¶ I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God.
14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

thats what i have to say about it

message 14: by Kenny (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 905 comments I support Euthanasia on most accounts. I am not sure about the animal thing, but hey, thats life, right? Everything dies eventually...

As for people, there is always consent. If the person in question cannot answer for being on life support, the question automatically goes to the closest family member, or is put to vote on the whole family.

message 15: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments yeah. I think its ok, with consent if the person has no chance of living and is in immense pain or watever.

message 16: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments No one is forced to die ever. they do not do it without consent- that's totally illegal except with pets. I do not think they should euthanize pets ever, just give them somewhere to prevent them from hurting others- not death.

other than agreeing with Rowan utterly...

I think that if someone is in a coma or is braindead etc- euthanasia should be up to the people in charge of them or in other words, having to sit there watching them live their "life" as a vegetable. Unless it's in their will, it's up to their loved ones.

message 17: by Chandani (new)

Chandani  (milkduds920) | 6408 comments I agree!

message 18: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments I'm a Catholic but I do NOT think euthanasia is a sin. But if you're in a wheelchair it should be illegal. i mean you're not in pain that's suicide. but other euthanasia is not suicide or a sin in my opinion. just like hospice is not suicide.
It is NOT assissted suicide- that's when you ask your doctor to give you pills to kill youself because you're depressed or something and you PAY them- THAT is illegal.
That was kinda religionist... in my opinion (all religion is opinionated, you pretty much believe what you wanna believe and then call yourself a religion because you like Jesus or Buhdda hwoever you like.) I think sin is when you do something you believe in your gut is utterly moraly wrong.
Some might say its not opinion- it's god's words.
BUT WAIT!
God never said- don't let gay's marry (they've changed the vadokan i think they should change it again and allow gay marriage that's just homophobes at work keeping it from them.) or deny a woman's choice OR never allow euthanasia. and I don't think he would call it a sin nor Jesus would because he had people's best intrest at heart.

Pretty much, religion is being inspired by someone, getting some of your ideas from them, filtering what you hear, turning it into your own religion and believing in your own heart. it's your values and your opinions unbiased that matter.

message 22: by Chandani (new)

Chandani  (milkduds920) | 6408 comments hmm?

Rude much?

and sorry i just like grammar.

That was rude, and unkind of you Kenna.

message 23: by Kenzie (new)

Kenzie Looks like you like grammar. *cough, cough* Not.

Look, if you're going to go around saying that to people you can't be improper with grammar yourself. That's kind of hypocritical don't you think?

And I don't mean to be offensive, I'm just stating a fact.

message 24: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) Please edit that Kenna. You don't have to, but it did sound sort of rude.

message 25: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) Anyhoo, my views on Euthasia:

If it's painless and the person/animal would die a very painful death anyway, or would live their life unable to really live, then WITH THEIR OR THEIR FAMILY'S CONSENT, they should kill them kindly.

message 26: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ well, it's sad, and i don't really like it. i probably wouldn't do it unless the person/animal was in horrible pain, and even then it would be really hard. but it's a personal choice.

as for what kenna said: "sometimes they do it without asking the person first."

yeah ... cuz the person/animal is in a coma, and they have a very low chance of waking up, so asking them isn't a possibility.

message 27: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments very low chance.
STILL a chance.
so then could you change "possibility" to "probability"

its not important at all, but it is still SLIGHTLY possible they MIGHT be able to MAYBE ask...

its not important. it can stay. it really isnt important

message 28: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ but even if they DID wake up, which they probably wouldn't, they would end up being "vegetables" for the rest of their lives -- unable to talk or move or anything. i guess someone could still learn to enjoy their life that way, but it would be really hard.

message 29: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments i would rather live that be killed by my family in my sleep...

message 30: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ well that's ur choice.

message 31: by Court (new)

Court Your family would have to really hate you to do that. They only un-plug the cables that keep you alive if your brain is practically dead. Or your parents ask for it.

message 32: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ yeah ... i'm not saying it isn't a hard choice. bcuz it is. but sometimes ppl know the best thing to do is to choose it.

message 33: by Court (new)

Court Yeah, I guess it is a hard choice..
