I had to read The Catcher in the Rye as a senior in high school, and for the first time, I realized the power of literature. My future as an English teacher was pretty much cemented at that point.

I read this book my senior year of high school as well, and similar to Ms. P, it demonstrated to me the power of literature. I believe that literature is appreciated depending on how well you can relate to it and how relevant it is to your life. I saw many parallels between myself and the protagonist, Phillip, which is why I loved this book.
