Mia sighed as she looked at the town square for the last time. "I can't come back." She whispered to no one in particular. "Father's gone-" She whipped a tear from her eyes, "Mother won't talk to me..." She took a deep breath, I should got find Jase. She thought turning away from Ivy Square, where she had grown up. She looked over her shoulder one last time, in a last good-bye to her home.
She looked up, surprised, she whipped away the tears she hadn't realized she had shed. She cleared her throat. "Nothing." She bit her lip, usually she was a good liar, but apparently not today.
She fought the urge to get angry and storm off. "What's your point?" she asked her back still to him.
She thought for a moment. This can't be a good idea... Mia, She thought to herself, you don't even know him. What if he's some scary serial killer who picks up young girls when they are all packed up and ready to leave, and no one will miss them because it's hard to stay in contact anyway and- AMELIA! Stop it. you are being irrational. She cleared her throat to stop the argument in her head and turned to face him slowly. "I'm Amelia. And as tempting as that is. I have to find my brother."
"Lead it?" She bit her lip. "Aren't you a little... young, to be leading those silly conventions?" Jase did say he was going north... She thought. Maybe... NO! Traveling with a stranger is never a good idea... but... you won't be alone, you hate being alone...
Mia bit her lip again then caught her self and stopped. "Well, that...sucks..." she said not really sure what to say. "I'm sorry that happened to you..." She muttered, stepping closer and touching his shoulder. "No one should be forced into anything." She said her voice soft, gentle. She looked back at the town square she had been raised in, and remember everything the community made her do because she was the odd one.
"Well, I am heading up North anyway...." She said feeling stupid, "and I guess I could use the company."
She nodded and looked up at the sky, "We're going to have to walk and talk." She pointed out, "My plan was to be far from here before high noon, and it's almost ten."
"So..." She said catching up with him. "I believe you've got a story to tell me." She said nudging him with ehr elbow slightly to get the story from him.
"Have you seen what happens there," She pointed back to the colony's town square, "at high noon? It's practically Hell."
She cleared her throat. "Hungry?" She asked reaching into her side bag for some of the food she had packed.
