My name is Mariah Hone, I'm Amy's assistant in Information and Reader Services at HQ. Conceptually, my favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy - especially in JF and YA, and I really like nonfiction as well! Lately, though, all I seem to read is manga!

message 4: by Angela (new)

Angela | 29 comments My name is Angela Gillette, and I am the Branch Manager at the Kearney Branch. I will read almost any genre, but I am a chain reader when a book/series hooks me. I often read YA titles, inspirational, action/crime stories, some romance and women's fiction.

message 5: by Mary (last edited Nov 22, 2011 07:10AM) (new)

message 7: by Diane (new)

Diane Creed (ldcreed5) My name is Diane Creed, and I am a substitute clerk at the Oak Grove Branch. I like suspense, urban fantasy, general fiction, you name it. I will give anything a try...

message 8: by Brian (new)

Brian I'm Brian McCann, the assistant manager at Boardwalk. I generally support good writing wherever it can be found. As a result, I appreciate a lot of teen books because that's where the imaginative writing is these days.

message 9: by Emily (new)

message 11: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 53 comments Kevin Zeller, Branch Manager at Red Bridge. I read christian fiction (Dekker is a favorite author); regular fiction, I read Lee Child and Douglas Preston. I occasionally read other fiction, but the summary has to really grab me if I'm going to read it, usually thrillers. Non-fiction, I read some christian, self-sufficiency type books and whatever topic I'm researching at the time. message 15: by Beth (new)

Beth (milbe) | 11 comments I am Beth Miller, technical processor in ILL. I read fantasy, science fiction, mystery, some romance but it must be humourous, young adult because that genre has the best plots, really any fiction that takes my fancy. I am also a fan of Patrick Rothfuss. I just finished The Wise Man's Fear, it is an incredible fantasy novel. The book is nearly 1,000 pages long and I was disappointed it was so short.

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6 comments I'm Susan Wray, Assistant Director and I'm at HQ. Tammy (tammyparrott) | 5 comments Hi all. My name is Tammy Parrott and I am the Parkville Branch Manager. I like to read SF and horror but I can also be seen consorting with other genres. The only genre I do not read is romance, I'm not sure why.

message 25: by Ros (new)

Ros Spring | 3 comments Hi, this is Ros Spring, Branch Manager at Antioch. I like to read almost anything good. I do find real Science Fiction and Fantasy a little dry and boring. I have always loved historical fiction from any period but especially the legends of Britain. I know that can be fantasy, but I like the romance. I don't often read Romance however. I have read a couple just to say I have. I started reading mysteries for the same reason and realized I like them. So my tastes are fairly eclectic. I do shy away from vampires and werewolves. I am a Jacob fan though.

message 26: by Christen (new)

Christen (lankster) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Christen Rhodes and I am the Boardwalk Branch Manager. I can be convinced to read just about anything and if I start something I will be compelled to finish it even if I don't like it. I am mainly drawn to YA and chick lit, but have recently been enjoying historical fiction. Over the last several years I have been trying to read one book by all of the MRA 330 and above authors. I've really been surprised by the ones I liked and didn't like.

message 27: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (chelseanorma) Hi everyone, I am Chelsea Arnett Fiola and I am a high school English teacher by day, Substitute Clerk at the South Independence branch by night. Because I am a teacher I read a LOT of YA books, mostly because I love them, but I also like to stay up to date with what my students are/can be reading. Other than YA I read mostly literature, classic and modern, and I never turn down a good mystery.

message 30: by Mary (new)

Mary (mhollenbach) | 1 comments Hello there from Mary Beth Hollenbach, of Buckner Branch. I'm an eclectic reader, but the worst thing I can think of is being without a book at all. I'd even read the back of the cereal box if I had to.
I'm currently reading Perfume by Patrick Suskind. It's a very scary story about a psycopath, kind of a departure for me, but very well written.

message 31: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 3 comments My name is Debbie Atwood. I am a half-time (Story Time) employee at the Blue Ridge branch. I am an eclectic reader and have varied interests, but predominantly read Juvenile and Young Adult fiction. I have not read any anime' or manga, however, as it does not appeal to me.

This is Amy Fisher again. This is my other personal account with Goodreads. So I befriended myself with my other account. Maybe one of these days I will put them together. I use this account more than the work one.

message 33: by Mandy (new)

Mandy | 2 comments Amy wrote: "We would like for you to introduce yourself by giving us your name, which branch you work at and maybe what you like to read."

Hey there. I'm Amanda Worthington and I'm a half-time library assistant at the North Independence branch. I love everything YA, which is probably a good thing since my job is in teen services. I love horror, fantasy, sci fi...."speculative" fiction, if you will. I love anything by Stephen King or Neil Gaiman. I'm also really into quantum physics and Mayan culture. I'm going to be on YALSA's Best Books For Young Adults selection committee next year, so I'm sure I'll be posting A LOT on here.

message 34: by Debbie (last edited Nov 30, 2011 12:29PM) (new)

Debbie | 3 comments Amanda, I too love Neil Gaiman. The Graveyard Book was a lot of fun to read.

Pat | 2 comments Hi everyone! This is Pat Bogue, Branch Manager of the Claycomo Branch. My reading is primarily been focused on the most requested author list. I like historical, romance, mystery, adrenaline fiction. Sometimes a non-fiction book will capture my attention but it must read like a story!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! My name is Meghan Fisher and I'm a substitute clerk at the Blue Springs North branch. The list of genres that I like would be a very long one as there is very little I don't read. So far, YA, historical fiction, mysteries, classics, and world history remain my favorites.

message 38: by Joelibrary (new)

Joelibrary | 2 comments Hello, I am Joe, the Assistant Manager at the Oak Grove Branch. I enjoy the science fiction and fantasy genres the most, but also read historical fiction, adventure, and military fiction as well as factual science material. I strongly agree with Beth and Jennifer in recommending The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss (a Goodread's nominee for Best book of the year). Happy to be here.

message 40: by Janice (new)

Janice Schultz | 1 comments I am Janice Schultz, branch manager of the Midwest Genealogy Center. I like mysteries, suspense, Amish, and history. I really like series books but often end up finding a series after it's well underway. So then I have to catch up.

message 41: by Mandy (new)

Mandy | 2 comments The Graveyard Book is amazing! I also love the Sandman series of graphic novels and American Gods. Everyone needs to read American Gods!

message 42: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 1 comments My name is Courtney Stolfus and I am a substitute clerk at Colbern Road. I enjoy reading pretty much any contemporary romance (especially humorous & suspense), and lots of YA. Admittedly, I totally jumped on the "contemporary" vampire bandwagon and am currently getting into mermaid books. I tend to find an author I like then read everything by them before moving on.

message 43: by Amee (new)

Amee (amee821) | 2 comments I'm Amee. I'm a page at Grain Valley. I try to read a little of everything but read mostly young adult and have been reading more fantasy this year.

message 44: by Paula (new)

Paula Blough | 3 comments I'm Paula Blough, Assistant Branch Manager at the Liberty Branch. I am fond of historical fiction, memoirs, good self-help books, and of course JE's. I especially like to read the first book of any new author. I feel like it stretches me a bit as a reader and often leads me to genres and additional authors that I would never have selected for myself. I have a silly little ritual that I will share with my Goodreads friends. When I finish a good book, I hold it to my chest, give it a firm hug and then return it. Books need love, too!

message 45: by Heather (new)

Heather (hezzy_t) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Heather and I work in Catalog at HQ. My main interests are historical fiction (Carolly Erickson is one of my favorite authors), history books, and crafting books (I'm an avid crocheter and seamstress!). I also read some YA books and I like to read nonfiction books on ghosts and the paranormal.

message 49: by Literary (new)
