I read this book probably around 15 years ago, give or take a few (at the time I read it I think it was already fairly old). Its about a girl, who I think was named something like Darcy. The Revolutionary war was just starting. Her mother had died years before, so her dad just treated her like one of his sons. One day, at a trading post? she and her brothers met a young man who was in the army (lieutenant?) and got her bro.s interested in joining. He kind od made fun of her for dressing like a boy. Her spinster aunt came to visit and was horrified at her manners, and her dress and decided to teach her how to be a lady. One of her cousins came as well and they taught her to ride side saddle, and run the plantation, dance, ect. and she hated everything. Her brothers joined the army and she kinda started like the lieut. Close to the end, there was a scare about the british coming, and had to do with the plantation and all her learning came in handy and she saved the day. They had a ball then, and the lieut. was there.

I don't know what the book is, but maybe someone else will. Good luck. :)In case you don't get a reply, this group might be able to help you out. The entire purpose of the group is to help people find books they can't remember.

Is it 'journey into war'? I haven't actually read it but I've got it at home with all of my other books on my list to read! It's sound like what your describing except her names Janey. Hope this helped sorry if its too late, I'm new to goodreads so I'm just looking around. Again, I hope it helped. :)

Was it an old book or a recently published book? Do you remember what it looked like? Have you tried asking a reference librarian?
It was an old book. I've asked my librarian, but she doesn't really remember anything. I guess I could try again.
