Ian Gibson (thinkgibson) | 5 comments Today I'm starting the Tolstoy classic 'War and Peace' - any other /lit/izens interested in a group read discussion type arrangement?

Nativeabuse | 2 comments What translation are you reading?

Ian Gibson (thinkgibson) | 5 comments Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky, specifically this copy:

I haven't noticed any problems with the translation, though I usually don't notice them unless there is the original text right next to it.

oh /lit/

anyway, i'll look into borrowing that one

we can read along together! i've never read it. i just know that it's often touted in cartoons and such as the prototypical 'long book'.

Ian Gibson (thinkgibson) | 5 comments I'm only about 60 pages in, but so far it's pretty damn good and fairly easy to read.

Todd Young (ToddYoung) | 4 comments It's a great book. A little too much war maybe. I think someone brought out an edition with less war. It's the war parts that are boring.

message 7: by Vuk (new)

Vuk (sinriel) I've heard it has over 100 pages

message 8: by Todd (new)

Todd Young (ToddYoung) | 4 comments Yes, definitely over 100. Maybe even as many as 200, or even more.

Ian Gibson (thinkgibson) | 5 comments Fuck this book is taking me forever. It's great so far, but two months has me only halfway through.

Also, this book is easy as shit to read. The only difficulty is the length - this ain't no Stein/Pynchon in terms of comprehension.
