Hello and welcome to Brain Pain, a group for reading and discussing challenging novels. The titles selected have historically challenged readers to exert more than an average amount of effort to complete. Many readers have begun these books and turned back when the climb seemed too steep, or worse, not worth the effort.

Brain Pain offers a structured, supportive environment to read these books with a group of like-minded people. Whether you’re approaching these works for the first time, or taking another shot at them, this is a place to get through the work with a sense of understanding and accomplishment. Those of you who have read these books in the past are welcome to contribute your experiences and interpretations of the works. Please share your wisdom with those of us who are making our first voyage through these challenging masterpieces.

We’re using the slogan “Brain Pain” as a tongue-in-cheek motif to take away some of the anxiety sometimes found with these books – kind of like whistling past the graveyard. Funny slogans aside, this is a serious-minded effort to read and analyze these works. Remember that whatever reputations these books have, they’re just books, so join in and feel the burn! “No Brain Pain, No Brain Gain!”
