I really liked the end of this book. I actually did not want it to be over. Ann's journey to freedom was not as suspenseful as I thought it would be, but I still loved how she got to end up with her lover, Alfred at the end *tear* so cute! One thing that I wasn't super psyched about was the lack of really intense plot twist. I guess I am used to having sad endings, but I keep forgetting that this book is intended for elementary kids who can't handle super complicated situations. I thought it was great to get a portrait of how people really survived and journeyed through the underground railroad because I really had no idea. My teachers must have explained it terribly to me because I literally pictured a tunnel underground. Anyway, this is a book that I would have my class read in order to get them immersed in the rich history of our country.
