OK - from here on out, let there be warnings that we are finished with the book and discussing it, so potential for spoilery bits... :)
OK - I was cringing throughout the whole opening chapter (and many other parts).
I think Crane def chose the right POV and tense for this series - I mean, we have what we know vs what Justine thinks she knows, and I had several holy crap moments where I was cringing because she didn't know what was really going on. I thought a pretty masterful use of 1st person POV.
Loved the scenes with her dad, too.

***More Spoilers***
Yep - Simon just acted so weird around Otto, even Justine noticed it was more than usual. But then I remember in Book 2 Simon & Shelby were trying to get Justine to look at Otto without the rose colored glasses.

***Spoilers***Definitely right POV, and the book still rang true even though we knew things that Justine did not. I especially liked near the end when Justine is not sure if she can fight Otto to save Packard, or if she will chicken out. Given how fear has ruled her life, it was completely natural. And even though she know at that point that she loves Packard, she's not sure how strong she can be knowing what Fawna's two pronged prophecy says.

Yes, that whole part felt so believable. Justine has always wanted so badly to be the valiant crimefighter, but fear and self-preservation are so very powerful.
