Nina looked up at the sky, so cloudy now in front of a brilliant sun. Her large brown eyes flicked over with a tiny blink to watch a bird fly across the sky. It's large wings flapped only occasionally, and it's flight was one of a bird who was relaxed, with nowhere to go but everywhere to explore.
Rosa wandered through the streets, whistling (or trying to whistle) a tune. She frowned when she saw a merchant striding confidently towards her. "What do you want?" she snapped, her American accent surprising the man.
Nina smiled and leaned back on the beautifully crisp, not-too-wet, green grass. She laced her fingers behind her head, letting her legs lay as loosely as they could. Her mother hadn't forced her into a dress today, so she could wear her jeans and T-shirt. A piece of hair that lay on her shoulder and chest glinted when the sunlight struck it, reflecting a blinding light into Nina's eyes. She winced and sat up quickly; the sun was still in her face but at least now she could shade it with her hand.
After a very, erm, interesting conversation, Rosa stormed away from the merchant and headed out of the city. She needed a rest. She threw herself onto the grass, breathing in the sweet, non-polluted air.
Rosa got the strange feeling someone was watching her. Sitting bolt upright, she turned to see a dark-haired girl looking at her. "What?" she asked, still slightly annoyed.
Nina quirked an eyebrow. "Nothing, I was just looking to see who'd flopped down with such... exuberance," she explained easily.
Rosa smiled. "Ah. Sorry about that, it's been a.....rough day." she held out her hand. "I'm Rosa."
Rosa grinned. "Nice to meet you Nina West. So, what are you doing all the way out here?"
"Staring at the sky. Got nothing to do, today, so I figured a little fresh air could do me good. What about you? Said you had a bad day?" Nina asked.((Does Rosa have an American accent like her Daddy?))
((Of course!))
"Yeah. I couldn't stand being in that rat's nest one more second, so I decided fresh air! Always good for ya!" Rosa said, her bad mood evaporating.
"Yeah. I couldn't stand being in that rat's nest one more second, so I decided fresh air! Always good for ya!" Rosa said, her bad mood evaporating.
((Okay, cool. I thought so.))"Indeed it is. Clears the head..." Nina had noticed Rosa's American accent, and considered bringing it up. Now, one might consider this rude and would get upset for her insolence, or one would be okay with it and tell her something like "Oh yeah, I'm American/half American, no big deal." She decided to try it out, delicately. "I, uh, noticed your accent. Not from around here, are you?" So much for delicacy...
Rosa frowned. "Nope. Not even from this planet, technically. I'm from nowhere. I was born on the original Earth, in Cardiff, but I wasn't raised there. I can't remember how I got here, to tell the truth..."
"Hum, how interesting. Original Earth? I'd love to go there, myself. Anywhere, really; it's gotten rather boring down here. Ah well, don't have the money I suppose..." Nina trailed off thoughtfully. After a moment or two, she shook herself and snapped back up to Rosa. "Anyway, you said something about a rat's nest? Would that be where you work or where you live? Sorry, if that seemed a little inquisitive..."
"No, just the city in general. Still not used to it here, I guess." Rosa smiled at Nina.
"Ah... Yeah, I guess it is rather a rat pit..." Nina smiled back at her. "At least, in some parts. Out here it's quite nice, really."
Rosa nodded. "Yeah. I wish I could live out here." Suddenly, she sat up. "I could live out here!! Wanna build a shack with me?"
Nina laughed brightly. That sounded like something she used to say, only it was a 'fort' with sheets in the living room by the fire. Unfortunately, Nina couldn't tell whether or not Rosa was serious. She hoped not; it would be exceptionally difficult to find materials to build a shack worth living in, let alone be allowed to live on this well-maintained, public hill. She shook her head. "Nah, I don't think that'd work too well..." She trailed off, still wondering if Rosa was serious or no.
Rosa laughed loudly, her sides aching from the force of her laughter. "Yeah, I guess you're right," she said. "Ah well, so much for that plan." She flopped back onto the grass, closing her eyes. The fresh air did wonders, really. She felt better already.

Then later where the city took a new mood (drug) called Bliss, leaving everyone either dead or stuck forever on the motorway....
