Sadly I will not be reading this months book. I am not a Stephen King fan. I love mystery, but I have never been able to get into his books. I may just go ahead and read the runner-up choice.

This one sounds interesting..."I haven't looked, but hopefully my library has the ebook version. It looks interesting, and I normally don't read King.
Hmmm, I guess all of the Stephen King fans voted for this book - I on the other hand love Stephen King - not sure I will get to this one this month though, but will be reading it soon.
I'm not a King fan, and have not read any of his before (not my type of book), but JFK is a interest of mine and that's what caught my attention and why I may give this book a try by getting it from the library.
Please do not let being a King fan or not a King fan keep you away from this book. It is incredible. I got it the day it came out and it completely swept me away. I will admit, I am a big king fan and have read just about everything he's written. Unlike a lot of his books there isn't a long set up time, we get right into the action. This is not a horror story, it is an examination of a man who is out of his own time and finds a place he belongs. He has a mission he has reluctantly accepted and wonders if he should just abandon it and stay there without changing anything.
The love story, not always King's strong suit is fantastic. I didn't want this book to end. Try it. I can't wait to discuss!

So this book isn't horror? I may give it a try. After reading a couple of his books, I wrote them off, as just not my thing. May give this one a go. Thanks for the heads up. :)
I didn't vote for this book. I voted for this one on the Stephen King Thread. I purchased this book last week. However, I am reading 2 books. Once I finish one of the books I will join in on the discussion.
I'm a couple hundred pages in, nothing makes me grin more than when King drops nods to his other works. Great book so far.
Greg, can you say what the nods to his other works are? I've seen other references to this, and although I'm also several hundred pages in, the references are apparently going right over my head ! (And I feel left out about this :) )
The thing about Stephen King is that even though he's a "horror writer" in the sense that non-real, horrible things can happen, it's his character development that completely engrosses the reader. He has such an excellent way of dragging you into his characters' lives, and making you love them, (most of them; or at least the main characters--not the villains!) although you come to know them as regularly flawed, imperfect, human beings. His books are some of the few where I actually use the nook dictionary to look up words!
I'm always torn when I read his books: I want to race through them to see what happens, but I also want to slowly digest them because I know I'm going to grieve once I have to leave the world he's so expertly inducted me into!
In this book, I'm jotting down the teaser loose ends that he dangles as I read along, because I know how he always manages to come back to all the details and tie it all up in a way that completely amazes me! (Like "Jimla" and "the yellow card man"--you just know this will come together in some fashion before this "ride" is over.

Not the current book by any means but, for those of you who are Stephen King fans this websiteDark Score Stories for the upcoming Bag of Bones miniseries has over 100 "easter eggs" though out the pictures that i found neat. References to other books etc. I myself am just about to start 11/22/63 after i finish the last 100 pages of my current book.
I'm so glad the book was chosen. It's absolutely wonderful. I finished it about a week ago. Will recommend it highly. I'm going through withdrawals. Didn't want it to end.
I just started reading this on my nook and I'm only 79 pages in but I was hooked from the start. As a regular teader of scifi I thought the premise a bit overused, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what King does with it.

When I heard the concept for Under the Dome my mind, like everyone else's, went straight to the Simpson's movie. I then thought of where I figured he would go with the premise and figured it would be okay at best.
What I always forget is that King injects very human stories that simply just work. In this book, for me, its most definitely everything that takes place in Derry.
I just bought this for a friend as a Christmas gift. Guess should have gotten one for myself, too. :)
I finished the book tonight. I added a review with some specific thoughts, but the short answer is I really liked the book. Great character development, an interesting story line with many twists and turns, and several subplots kept it moving. The only reason I read this was to join in on the book of the month for a change and I'm very glad I did.
I'm about halfway through this book..keep finding myself trying to keep my eyes open at 2am to just read a little more. Love it!!!
I've never read a Stephen King book, but after reading the description I think I would really like this book. However its a little bit of monster so I don't know when I'll get to it.
I love reading, but I'm such an escapist. This is not the type of book I normally read. One of my relatives, assuming that since I love reading, I must love Stephen King, bought this for me. So I may pick it up. I read Under the Dome about a year ago, because my husband made me. And while it was good, it wasn't a thousand pages good. Since this one has ridiculously fabulous reviews, here's hoping! Would those of you who have finished say that this is a horror story? Like, keep the lights on type?

It's more of an adventure story that relies heavily on character interaction. There's no horror element to it.
I agree. I didn't want it to end. It was so engrossing. I am a huge King fan, but this is not a horror story. I was a little disapointed by "Under The Dome". It had a lot of lead up with no real pay off. "11/22/63" is just awesome. The pace is fantastic and the charactor development is wonderful. It also hooks you in the first ten pages.
I loved Under The Dome. However, I was highly disappointed with the ending. 11/22/63 is my next read for January. I am hoping I will not be disappointed.

Time to start reading(and now you have the perfect excuse to pick up this book, without waiting to get it for Christmas!), and come back to this thread to add any comments/discussion.
I started the book a week ago, and I am always hypnotized by Stephen King's writing. This book is no exception!
There's also a book club on Goodreads devoted to SK's writing, and you might want to take a peek at their discussion as well.
