It depend son the series. Some I am very fussy with whilst others I am rather easy going. I honestly think my mood on the day determines a lot of it too hehe.
So happy that other people share my pain. Lux you've made me more excited to get started on Theatre Illuminata now.For some reason the Australian designs always seem to be more childish. I'm kind of offended that they seem to be dumbing down the appearance for our market. I use booktopia.com a lot because they usually have all the different covers available.
It is incredibly annoying when they change the cover part way through a series.
I understand what you mean! I have The Summer I Turned Pretty in paperback, but preordered the two books after it when they were coming out, but didn't realise they were hardback. Now I've got a paperback and two hardcovers of the series and it's soo frustrating.
I was talking to my mum about it months ago and first she said I could get the book but then when she realised I already had the book and just wanted a different cover of the book so they'd all match, was like no.
Also, I REALLY!!! wanna read Chain Reaction, but the first two I have are paperback and they've released Chain Reactions as HC, which is so annoying! If I brought it they'd be all mismatched...
I have too agree with you their it very annoying when they change the cover halfway through a series!
Rebecca I had a similar problem with the Summer series. I bought the first two in paperback and now have to wait until April next year for the last one to release in paperback. I caved and bought the last one on kindle because I was so tired of waiting for it.
You just names one of my biggest bookish pet peeves. I'm bookshelf obsessed and I admit to spending time sitting in front of my self and admiring how pretty it looks ( what a werido - I KNOW) and it annoys me to no end when a series is published but the size, theme or format is different because it looks so bad on the shelf!!!
The Fallen Series is the worst - I have all three novels and they are ALL in different size ( they published the last novel is HUGE paperback format and it's so ugly)
I also hate buying US paperbacks because they publish paperback to a different size than AUS therefore my series don't match.
I find the best way to cope with my OCD is to separate the series so that my whole bookshelf is organised by size :/
I'm a sucker for pretty covers and love the ones with dresses :)
And yes, Hex Hall AUS edition is as ugly as hell so I recommend getting the US hardbacks ( i did!)
Most of AUS YA book covers are very ugly but Harlequin teen AUS gives the US and UK a run of their money!
I *really* want to read Chain Reaction, but not in hardback as I have book 1&2 in paperback. So I'm putting my foot down and waiting til the paperback comes out, which I think is like about 130 days away. Oh, my that sucks!!
See I like thinks neat and tidy and books I LOVE I love hem to match! I also hate when midway its all changed and you are left feeling lost and confused (Don't GET me started on teh new covers for Wolfebane and what not **grumbles**) but then other times im like o0o0o funky all different and yeah..

Not sure exactly how much you like matching covers but I know Kmart has the Fallen series in a boxed set so they're all pretty and matchy. Just depends if you want to actually replace three perfectly good books you already have (which I will admit to doing).

I loved the vampire academy series but stopped buying new books because the new releases didn't match the first few in the series. I'm now reading the books on my kindle and waiting and hoping for a nice, perfectly matched box set to be released.
I've also stopped buying Lauren Kate's Fallen series because somehow ended up with one in hard cover and one in soft cover when I bought books one and two and can't decide which to purchase again so they're matched. I'm waiting to see what happens with future releases.
I want the books in the Hex Hall series but refuse to buy them in Australia because I like the other covers much better.
While I'm sure they're amazing books (I haven't read them yet) the major reason I bought Lisa Mantchev's Theatre Illuminata series is because I fell in love with the covers. (Check them out, they are so pretty).
I'm preparing to replace my entire Sarah Dessen collection because I started buying them with the black cover art but found out that not all of her books would be released with those covers.
I'm VERY uspet because I just bought the third book in Jenna Black's Faeriewalker series on Amazon, and it's a little taller than the first two and different cover material.
And this is only a few examples. So, just wondering if anyone else has the same issues?
