Woody looked up and scanned the portion of the tributes he could see. He positioned his feet. This won't be so bad, I normally do this with logs.
He positioned his feet, ready to take off at the gong.
As the gong sounded he shot forward, sprinting towards the golden gleam at the top of the mountain.

Sweat started to bead on Woody's forehead. As much as he wanted to get to the top, he was wary for what might be on the other side.

message 4: by Nova (new)

Nova (novastella) Nadia rose up on the disk, shining in the sun. She blinked her eyes at the sudden brightness, and smelled trees.
TREES!! She looked up and couldn't help smiling at a familiat sight. Right away, she could spot some nut trees, pine trees, and a bush with berries here or there.

GONG

She ran off the hill, and noted the crumbly rocks and gravel beneath her feet. She took a deep breath, and swung up on a branch. She grabbed a long, sinewy appendage from the tree, and used it to hoist herself up farther. Soon, she was ready to run.

hop, hop, hop She lept from tree to tree, making her way to the Cornucopia. Then, she made the mistake of looking down.

The Bloodbath had begun.

message 5: by Eve (last edited Oct 11, 2012 07:15PM) (new)

Eve (emusings) As soon as the gong's reverberating note reached his ears, the breath caught in Roman's lungs, refusing even the short journey to his throat. He steeled himself. He'd been over this moment five thousand times in his head. Five thousand was no where near enough to prepare him, however. Not for this. Around him, the silence erupted into the cries and heavy breath of his twenty two competitors. But they didn't matter. The only one on the mountain worth caring about was less than one hundred meters away from him. His breath returned with the sudden need to shorten that distance.

The world, through Emerie's eyes, was all a watercolor wash. The light of a simulated sun shown brightly down from above, casting an ironic halo over the chaos amassing around her. She stood perfectly still, feeling a cool breeze wafting up from the water shift her hair ever so slightly against the dark fabric of her shirt.

Roman took off, running towards Emerie. He willed her to run away now, get as far away as possible and wait for him to find her, but she didn't move. "Emerie!" He yelled to her over the cries of the bloodbath, "Emerie, run!" She stayed, unmoving like a fragile ice sculpture of a goddess forgotten long ago. It broke his heart. All he could do now was sprint to her aid in the hope he would reach her before any other tribute had the chance. Soon enough, but all together too slowly for comfort, Roman was close enough to take her in his arms. He stood over her, cupping her porcelain face in his hands with a careful hunger. He looked into her glassy eyes urgently. "Emerie, I need you to run as far away as possible. I'll find you and keep you safe. Just RUN!"

Emerie stood still for a moment longer, experiencing his touch like a memory lived ages ago, fading at the edges. Then she was off, caught in a half-run, half-tumble down the mountain side. There was no doubt in her mind that Roman would come for her. She knew he would always be there.

Roman was instantly relieved when Emerie's form began to retreat into the dusk-like green of the trees. He needed to get some small provision if they were to make it past the first two or three nights. Scattered along the paths to the cornucopia were small packs. They were sparse but it looked like he might be able to snag one not far away...

As Woody reached the first round of supplies, he grabbed a backpack and a knife. He wasn't very good with knives, but if another tribute was to attack him, he could use it.
Woody was one of the first to reach the cornucopia he ran inside and snagged two axes and another backpack before running out.

Woody ran down the side of the mountain, passing a few tributes as they headed up. He thought about trying to flick a knife at one of them, but he decided not to since he wasn't very good.

Woody darted into the trees, hoping none of the other tributes found him. He ran threw the foliage before reaching a large tree. He scrambled up the tree until he reached the near top, watching the tributes run past the woods.

message 9: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Roman reached a bag and stooped to get it. He grabbed the waterproof fabric and barely had it bunched between his fingertips before he was off and running again, back down the mountain to where Emerie's slight form was no longer visible. He couldn't entertain any macabre notions. His mind couldn't take it, even though he knew these bloody images that filled his vision were just a precaution in the event that the unspeakable might actually occur. He heard the scream of a life being taken and the only thing that entered his mind was that it wasn't Emerie. He knew her voice, her scream, as well as his own. He knew if he didn't reach her in time this day might be the last time he would ever hear it. The breath was coming harder and his lungs began to burn. He wasn't accustomed to running for this long, this fast. He was also a stranger to the gnarled roots that laced the ground and made him stumble. The thought of Emerie sprawled somewhere among the detritus caused his legs to plow on, faster, despite his muscles' desperate cry. He needed to find Emerie. He needed for her to be safe.

message 10: by Nova (new)

Nova (novastella) Nadia shook her head, tears falling from her eyes. She blinked back tears and pressed on to the cornucopia. Everything was blurry and too bright.

Finally, she landed on top of the cornucopia's domed cover. Silently, she crept over the edge, and grabbed a bottle made of some metal, a backpack, and a loaf of bread.

Noticing that the fighting and other tributes were coming closer, she widened her eyes, and tried to move, but she was rooted to her spot.

move, darn you! MOVE! Nadia thought despreatly.

Chance stood their, no the plate waiting. DONG! The gong sne and they were off. The first thng he did was stated looking for Lyra. Heknew h should be thinkng about himself, how to get down. How to stay alive but he couldn't. "I hope your okay.: his said under his breath. e quickly started don the moutain a small bag tigty hld under his rght arm.
((I know I'm late, I ws grounded. Sorry!))

message 13: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) ((No worries! And I was thinking Tanner because they never got along;) Crest will back him up.))

message 14: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) ((Allright!))

Tanner looked at his surrodings, trying to take them in as the countdown began. He was glad he had visited climbing... At least breifly. When it rung, his heart pounded aand he stepped of the plate slowly.

Crest hummed a song of help, nervously fidfling with her shirt. She was glad she was at climbing for her majority of her time... She was almost an expert. Her plan was set in her head

message 15: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) ((I feel like Roman's getting away too easy. I do want him to live past the blood bath, but some tribute interaction would be nice... Either with him or Emerie who is down the hill a ways.))

message 19: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) ((Sure, Caroline.))

message 20: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) ((Oops. Stupid autocorrector.))

Crest slowly grabbed a sturdy rock, pulling herself up. She was determined to go to that cornocopia. She needed it. "Where is my ally...?" She asked herself softly, as she moved up slow.

Tanner looked around, wanting just a fist battle. It would make him look tough. He stood a ways way from his plate, looking around.

message 21: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) In a mad dash to escape the chaos on the mountain side, Roman stumbled over a low boulder and went crashing into another tribute making her way upwards. His heart pounded as he struggled to role away, not exactly sure what had just happened. He was aware of a collision solely, and could only hope that who-or what-ever he had hit was't going to hit him back. It took him a couple seconds to realize that the pouch he had grabbed had been knocked out of his grasp when he slipped, but his head was still spinning too much for him to locate the small object.

message 22: by Faith Noelle (new)

Faith Noelle Smith ((Note: Right now, we are in the bloodbath. So, we need at least 8 give or take a few, tributes to die. Remeber that if your tribute dies to post her/him in the "dead tributes" topic so we know. Thanks.))

message 23: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) ((Aw man...))

Crest sucked in air on the impact, unable to scream, the wind knocked from her. She grunted trying grasp anything, on there way down. She heaved as they stoppes, rubbing her head and crunging at her cuts.

Tanner had an unsafe feeling, ducking at the perfect time, spinning around iimediatley. He dove in the cornocopia, grabbing a few himself, mad. He knew who it was...

message 24: by Eve (last edited Oct 17, 2012 07:44PM) (new)

Eve (emusings) Roman looked at Crest, a dear in the headlights, and paused. He was couched low on the small plateau they had reached in their fall. He met her eyes for a moment, trying to judge what her response would be in the pivotal moments before it occurred. Fight or flight? He hadn't known its true meaning until now. He took his eyes off the tribute girl just long enough to see his bag, tangled in a shrub maybe ten meters up the mountain.

message 26: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Her eyes followed his... Maybe she wouldn't need to get up to the cornucopia.."What in the lord's sake was that fir?" Crest crossed her arms on her chest stubborn. She ignored the small pain her leg, it wasn't anything serious she had decided.

message 27: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Crest was between Roman and his bag, and he could see they had both made the same connection. That pack was his one chance at making it out there. He had no experience with nature's dangers out side of the training center, and what ever was in the little black bag could make up for his ineptness. The tribute girl in front of him needed the bag as much as he did, surely. That's what made her so dangerous. He tried to control his nerves so fear wouldn't show in his voice. "Trust me, it was nothing personal." His tone was mercifully level, "Let me get my bag and I'll get out of your sight."

message 28: by Nova (new)

Nova (novastella) Nadia finally snapped to her senses. Now was not the time to be afraid. She took a coil of rope and started darting off down the hill.

The sooner she could get to the bottom, the sooner she could find water. Water ran downhill, right?

message 32: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest noticed his bribe, rather mad. She begin back towards it, her eyes and face expressionless now."I need it as much as you..." She said, slowing her backwars pace. "Plus, I'm always up for a fight." Crest was suprised at herself of her words, but stood strong.

Tanner grabbed something of what he though was fishing gear, a trident. He smiled, setting it in a pile he had created. Tanner heard a lite tread coming near him, knowing the person. He gripped a knife, saying,"Hi Candy, how are you?" It was more of a hiss.

message 36: by Eve (last edited Oct 18, 2012 06:04PM) (new)

Eve (emusings) "I'm up to fighting as much as you are. It's your death, not mine." He edged forward slowly, keeping the distance between them the same. He didn't even know what district the girl was from, but assigning such identity to the other tributes was dangerous. As long as Crest was just a road block on Emerie's path to survival, he could rationalize murder. Still, he couldn't afford all the time he was spending in talk. Emerie was out there and her time was limited if he wasn't by her side. This was a fact he had to keep hidden, for Emerie's sake and his own.

message 37: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest sighed, shifting on her feet. He didn't know her hidden weapons...."Just get your bag and leave me alone..." She grumbled, hopping down away from him.

Tanner sighed, sweat rolling down his face even though it was cold in this altitude. He clutched it tight."Fine.."

message 38: by Faith Noelle (new)

Faith Noelle Smith Lyra ran faster and faster into the piney woods. Trying not to be seen. She hoped soon she'd find Chacne but that was highly unlikely. Her eyes darted left to right, looking for other tributes, some where to hide.

message 39: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Roman barely stifled a sigh of relief and dashed passed the girl. He had the bag in a matter of seconds and began to skid back down the mountainous trails towards the direction he knew Emerie had fled. His heart was pounding in his ears. He didn't know what condition he'd find her in, and the not knowing was the worst part. He didn't think to glance back at Crest as he entered the forest. Now all beings were insignificant. All but the fragile figure cowering in the forest not one hundred meters away.

message 42: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest watched him go in releif. She began to club up again, slightly faster. Thought ran through her head.

Tanner shook his head, lying but it looked really real."I'm fine." He reapeted firmly, looking at his weapons behind him. Tanner suddenly was mad at her, an urge to hurt her. He jumped at her, lurching his body on her, tackling Candie.

message 43: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) He laughed smirking and kicked her back from behind, tolling Into a stand."Friends? Ha." Tanner clenched his knife tightly, looking at his spears in his backpack.

message 44: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) He moved his leg so the dagger scrapped it but hit the ground. Tanner cringed. He squeezed his knife, plunging it near her arm.

message 45: by Eve (new)

Eve (emusings) Roman broke back into a sprint, sending up dust around his feet as he speed to close the gap between their bodies. His pace was long and grounded, like that of a runner entering the home stretch. That's what this was: the distance between his rapidly beating heart and his last token of home. As the agonizingly long seconds that lapped in the space between Roman and Emerie finally seeped away, he skidded down in front of the small, crumpled girl, falling to his knees. His arms encircled her, his hands and eyes searching for any sign of harm inflicted upon her. He breathed a sigh of unmeasurable relief into her fair hair as her unblemished arms found their way around his torso and her perfect fingers knotted themselves in his shirt. Her tears, panicky in their consolation, dampened the fabric. He took her face in his hands and gently stroked away the salty water that pooled on her porcelain cheeks.
"Never leave me again." Emerie's words were so quiet and intimate, it made Roman's heart strain.
"I promise. I'll never leave you. Never."

message 46: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) "Help!" Tanner squealed trying to move from the stab. He suddenly head butted her hard, groaning at the outcome of a sore head. Tanner rolled up,grabbing his weapons and trying to ignore his pain. "2 on 1?" He thought nervous.

Crest heard her district partner cry. She made it to the top, watching a bloody fight. Crest's face showed horror as she jumped to Tanner's side, grasping a bow and arrows.

message 47: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest breathed heavy looking at Tanner wide eyed. She bit her lip. Tanner blinked a few times, cursing under his breath. He looked at Crest who smiled

message 48: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Tanner began to walk in their path but Crest grabbed him."Before you go... Don't die... " She whispered. Memories flooded into their heads... Tanner stopped shaken by someone falling...

message 49: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Tanner looked down the hill, cringing. Crest muttered a quick prayer. "Best wishes..." Tanner said, unable to bare the memories..... He jogged off in his own direction. Crest was going to say something, but stopped herself. She wanted to put the poor boy out of his misery so she sslid down the steep mountain towards him.

message 50: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) She slowly approached him, nervously loading her bow. Could she maybe help him? Crest didn't want to kill him..n
