message 2: by Ross (last edited Aug 29, 2012 06:55AM) (new)

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Silas looked around him warily, as he surveyed the layout of the training centre. Call it force of habit or call it paranoia, he didn't quite care which, all he knew was that knowledge was power, and if knowing his surroundings gave him the power to react to them, then the power of good to him. As far as he was aware this was the first Hunger Games in which relatively recent winners were allowed to serve as mentors, which was just as well, he thought, scowling. Part of being a mentor involved passing down one's experience in an attempt to communicate one's savvy and instincts to the next two poor bastards who had been randomly selected to feed the bloodlust of the capitol could walk to his or her death.

'Not if I have a damn thing to say about it they're bloody not.' he mumbled. It wasn't a street-wise arrogance that made him assert as such, he had never claimed or perceived himself as better than any ofhis fellow tributes when his name was called out in those crystal clear faux cheerful tones, as though everyone was fooled for the briefest second as to the terrible nature of the 'honour' bestowed, it was no honour, it never was, it was a reminder, a cruel sadistic jerk of the chain to warn the districts to behave, toe the line, do what was demanded of them, and surrender their manual labour for the betterment of the Capitol.

Silas glanced down for the umpteenth time at the two unassuming faces on his datapad, the tributes for the new games, a boy and a girl from his district, District 6, transport. Whatever they had been doing to get by before, be it driving a taxi, or strapping Ted the Crash Test Dummy into his seat, or taking tickets on a bus, that life was over for them now, and they had better know it.

Ashlyn Roth, who he had nicknamed the blonder berserker, seemed capable, but her risk-taking tendency raised a few concerns. That she seemed to be an above average close quarters combatant boded well for when it came down to the scramble for survival, she wouldn't flinch when it came to using her natural gifts to get the edge over another, and though she didn't look like much, Silas knew a fighter when he saw one. The irony of a head peacekeeper’s daughter being a little firebrand was delicious, she was a rebel, she had spirit, she wouldn't hide in a hole weeping. True chances are she might survive longer that way, but if trouble did find her, it sure as hell had better be prepared because she would be, and when push came to shove her no-holds barred adaptability would serve her well. 'We have to make people like you Blondie.' Silas muttered, maybe play up the peacekeeper card, try to make her out to be a good girl who's not afraid to get her hands dirty.

Claudio Cotton on the other hand, was a rather more stable option, a safe bet some might call him. Silas had named him Captain, after the fictional superhero Captain America. Like Steve Rogers, Claudio was compassionate, but that did not make him a soft touch, when others were in danger, his heroism came to the fore. It was the sort of selflessness that firemen have, and it was the sort of self-sacrificing tripe that could get him killed. The thing about heroes, Silas had found out the hard way, was that they nearly always had leverage one could exploit, their compassion was both their strength, their most admirable quality, that which made them decent human beings, but it was also their Achilles heel.

Winning the Hunger Games did not mean you had to be soulless, a remorseless killer . It might help, but that was not the point, these were kids, not stone cold psychos. ‘Well that’s what this fuckfest is turning them into, that or worm chow.’ Both of them could do with as much training as they could get, the key was to be practical. Nobody was dumb enough to slug it out straight from the get go. They tended to grab what they needed and retreat to safety, but some would opt for the quick kill, and Roth and Cotton had to be on their guard at all times. ‘Constant vigilance.’ Silas growled in his best Moody impression, scowling for good measure. Oh the sponsors would like the Captain, Blondie needed to smile more. ‘Don’t get attached mate, ‘ it makes it worse when the inevitable happens, no it was not inevitable, it was do or die out there, and he was damn sure his two were going to be doing a hell of a lot of doing without dying.

 Faith Noelle Smith Lyra walked into the training center. Heart beating fast; looking at her competition, Soon there would only be eight of them left and the two and then one. the victor She thought to herself. She looked around trying to find Chance but with no luck. She saw him walk into the training center a few minutes before her. Where could he be? Instead of worrying about him she went ahead and just started without him. Hoping he’d show up.

Chance was already in the training center by the time she got there. He was looking for her but couldn’t seem to find her so he just gave up knowing that eventually they’d find each other. He went over to the knife station first, hoping he’d learn how to throw a couple of good knifes before the beasts of the capitol decide they didn’t feel like letting him live anymore. They can do that. He thought to himself. They could or will kill me he didn’t want those thoughts anymore so he just started listening to the instructors direction’s on how to get a good hold and how to aim.

message 4: by Rach (new)

Rach (rsjreads) Rain walked in after Rayce. Rayce held his head high, scowling at the tributes that were already training. He notions to Rain to look around and see what she was interested in. She noticed the knives area and smiled. Bows and knives, her specialty. Rayce looked and decided he would take on some first aid preperation, since that would be his weakest area. "I am going to the first aid area. Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything, okay Rain." Rain nodded and walked away. She passed Rayce and walked up to where Chance was. She glanced, smiled and grabbed a few knives. She knew not to show how strong she was, her innocence was an advantage for her. Innocent on the outside, tough on the inside, she thought.

Rayce walked to the first aid and began chatting with his instructor. He didnt know much about first aid or plants so he stayed in between the two, using them as reference for when he is in the games.

message 5: by Rach (new)

Rach (rsjreads) Max walks in loud and obnoxiously. He looks around and gawks at everyone. Thinking he is the hot shot he walks lousily over to wrestling, noticing that Rain was near by. He took on the instructor giving everything he got. Melissa walked the opposite way. She couldnt be seen with him. She hated him and her capitol. She wanted nothing to do with it. She took on running so she could clear her head and mind. Something she needed to do.

-----------

Rain notices Max, not saying a word, she walks to the opposite side of the targets to practice her knife throwing.

message 6: by Faith Noelle (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith ((Thanks, Rachel))

Lyra looked at Rain. She'd herd that name before but doesn't know where or when. Insted of just staring like a mad women she truns back to her knot tieing.

message 7: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest walks slowly into the room, her eyes widening. She had NO idea where to go, she just needed to socialize for an ally. Crest walked to the knives, weighing on in her hand.

Tanner walks in, hands in pockets. He, with no question, hurried to running. He was only warming up at a slow sprint.

Caroline (godwithus) Chris sits in a lounge chair, curious as to what his tributes did. He would use their strengths and weaknesses today. And he would discover what they did best.

message 10: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Chris eyed the other mentors but glued his eyes back to the center.
~~~~~~
Crest looked over at the mentors... Which one was- "Oh! That one on the wall..." She thought. "Should I talk to her?" She decided against it. Lilly would talk if needed.
~~~~~~

Tanner stopped after a full sprint. He put his hands on his knees, worn out.

message 19: by Shannyn (last edited Aug 29, 2012 10:44PM) (new)

Shannyn Jak slowly walked in, taking the room in gulps. This is where he had trained so long ago. Ages it seemed. Lyra and Chance. Those were his tributes. He thought he had seen Chance around Ten before, but he couldn't be sure. He didn't get out much.
He felt lost here. Not just in the Training Center, but the Capitol in general. He didn't belong.. Even thought he needed to be sure of himself. How was he gonna help these kids? He had just won on smarts, certainly not his fighting skills. But he would teach them as much as he could either way.

message 20: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Tanner, as if knowing what Lilly said, jogged to Edible/Medicinal plants. Something thst was highly unfamililar. Well, maybe just a little.

Crest tried a smaller lighter knife, spinning it until it fight her hand. She lunged into the throw and it hit around the head target.

message 21: by Rach (new)

Rach (rsjreads) Rayce noticed Tanner as he jogged up to the plant area. He aknowledged him with a nod, and continued on searching for edible plants. He scanned the books several times before he looked out to spot Rain. More and more tributes had come in and he didnt see her in the area. He panicked slightly. He searched and searched until he noticed she had taken up Camouflage. Typical he laughed to himself.

Rain continued to use the natural items given to her to hid her self. She practiced on her hand for the longest time finding it soothing. She looked at all the other tributes, not searching for an enemy, but for an ally.

message 22: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Chris grinned as he saw his tributes walk in. He was going to watch first, wondering what they could and couldn't do.

Crest didn't look at the career by her. She threw more knives, he aim getting better.

Tanner nods back at the person by him. "Disrtict 5." He says, while continuing to work.

message 23: by Faith Noelle (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith Lyra finally found Chance in the end and now started looknig around, trying to find Jake, who theyd herd was their mentor this year. Hopefully, he wouldn't let them die.

Caroline (godwithus) She stopped and looked around. Crest wanted to find her chance for an alliance.

Amy
Since the girl tribute from 2 was busy chatting away, she approached her boy tribute. "Amy. Your mentor. You're Val, I'd assume," she said.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

"Well that's lovely. I was wondering if you would like to go someplace we could talk about the games?" she asked him.

message 28: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest smiled weakly, her kindness beaming. "Uh... HI. I'm Crest, district 5...'

message 29: by Shannyn (new)

Shannyn Jak looked around the room once more. Then he spotted them. At the far side of the room. He didn't feel like walking but he didn't want to draw attention to himself by waving so he stuck his hands in his pockets and walked over to them, head down. When he reached them he looked up a little.
"Uh, I'm Jak. Your mentor. Nice to meet you guys." he said but made no motion to shake their hands.

message 30: by Faith Noelle (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith Lyra and Chance waited for their mentor to show but never did. So they just went back to there training and hoped that there mentor would find them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lyra headed over to the plant area, at that time there wasn't anyone there so she thought she could get some one-on-one time the the instructor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Chance, not really knowing if he should follow Lyra or not just back to te knife station hoping to maybe meet some other tributes.

message 31: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Tanner smiled at Lyra but continued to work.

Crest mumbled, "Thought so.."

message 32: by Faith Noelle (new)

message 36: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest sighs softly. She rolls her eyes, just another career to worry about. Crest looks around and walks up to Lilly.

Tanner finishes with a high enough score. He thought he would meet his mentor and his district partner. Tanner follows her.

message 37: by Faith Noelle (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith ((Oh.))

Lyra looks around, still looking for Jake. Finally she spots him, she grabs Chance's arm,"Chance, there he is. Our mentor."
"Oh great. More people to tell us what to do."
"Come on Chance, he could save our life. Lets go."
"No! I don't care if he could save the whole damn world! Hes from the caitol so therefor I don't like him. You go. I'm not"

Lyra looks at Chance, she was worried that he could ven die in the bloodbath the way hes going. Lyra walks over and looks at Jake. Here we go. she thouht and walked up to him. "Hi Jake, I'm from district 10. I'm one of your tribtues this year."

message 38: by Faith Noelle (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith ((Ha, his name is Jake. How nice. :p))

message 39: by Shannyn (new)

Shannyn ((actually it's a different spelling of Jack just without the "c" lol))
He saw the two tributes approach him and perked up a bit. "Hi, I'm uh, Jak. And you must be Lyra." He spoke quietly. He made no motion to shake her hand. "I'm sorry you guys were chosen, but the best I can do is help you get out of that arena alive. So what do you want to know?"

message 40: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest looks at tanner and he shrugs. Tanner keeps on going, Crest trailing. They smiled at each other and then at Lilly.

message 41: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest reaches for it and shakes. Her smiles beams."It's my pleasure." She gave Tanner a turn who greatfully shook it.

message 42: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) ((Hey Rachel, do want your tributes to meet their mentor? Or do want to hold off?:))

message 43: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Tanner's face was puzzled and Crest's thoughtful."What?" They asked after eachother

message 44: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) Crest lets out a light laugh."I'm working on things I CAN'T do. I allready can do that easily." She said,hoping to be as humble as possible. Tanner nods at Lilly."I agree. I have nothing on that.... Well a little..."

message 45: by Faith Noelle (last edited Aug 30, 2012 05:55PM) (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith Lyra looked at Jake and then shoock his hand lightly. Then she said in a soft voice, "Well, I don't really know. What can you teach us?"
Chance just glared. He didn't want to be here, he didn't want to talk to him. He just didn't want to have anything to do with this thing.

((Sorry, I have to get to used to spelling Jak. So used to spelling Jake so, sorry if I mess up a few times.))

message 46: by Faith Noelle (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith ((Don't forget guys, even though we have mentors we still have to get involed with the other tributes.))

message 47: by Shannyn (new)

Shannyn ((It's totally fine!))
He scratched his head. "Well... there's a lot to learn...Well let's start with strengths. What are you good at? And it doesn't have to me a fighting skill. Mine wasn't." He looked around for the boy. Jak thought he spotted him when he saw a boy glaring at him and Lrya.

message 48: by Isabel~domolover (new)

Isabel~domolover | 64 comments Amy, looked at the tributes and the activities they are doing. Wondering in her head witch one of her tributes will win or survive the longest.

message 49: by Faith Noelle (last edited Aug 30, 2012 06:15PM) (new)

 Faith Noelle Smith Lyra took a pause before she answerd,"Do we have to this here?I mean its the trainig center." Lyra looked at Chance and the said in a hush but harsh voice," Cance come on, hes trying to save our lives!"

"LYRA! Don't you get it? I don't care! I don't care if I live or die. I alrady sai I'm done. I don't care anymore."

Tears filled Lyras eyes then she said," I'd care if you got killed. And so would your parents."
