This is the theory that was long believed to be the most accurate example or theory of how the universe was progressing. About 10 years ago, this theory was disproved.

The Big Bang states that :the Universe is moving outwards at a constant speed and/or rate through space, and will continue to do so for eternity.

This was proven false because it turns out the Universe is moving outwards at an ACCELERATING speed. We go out faster and faster.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I learned that in science. I mean how much force could that be to be even greater than gravity and stil continuing today

message 4: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
It is a massive amount of Energy converted into force. It not only takes out gravity, but it takes out gravity Repeatedly! I think that the universe is like an Atom. It has the two forces acting on it. An atom has the Strong Force which pushes it inwards, holding it together, and the weak force, pushing it out. I think that the universe is the exact opposite. And the farther apart it gets, the harder it is for the weaker forces to keep it together.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah it is. I think there are still little explosion at the tips of the univers so it can continue expanding

That would be cool... That is, if you aren't living on the edge of the universe. Then it would just bite. That would really suck.

James (methatonekid) | 62 comments Mod
well we don't know it is ever expanding it could expand the contract then expand.....we could be expanding at a accelerated speed

message 8: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
Right. But so far, evidence shows that it is constantly increasing its outward-movement with an increasing speed.

We find out through the RED shift and Blue shift stars emit. If their color spectrum shows colors more towards the red when we look at them with a spectroscope, then they are coming closer (means we are moving nearer) and if they show blue, they are getting farther away.

AKA: The Dopler Affect.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Isn't the doppler affect the thing with sound waves

message 12: by James, that one kid (last edited Nov 09, 2008 11:19AM) (new)

James (methatonekid) | 62 comments Mod

but with our limited time looking at space compared to the life time of space we can guess but not prove

message 13: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
Right, the Doppler affect is the same with light. It works for both affects. When light is pushed out, it shows the distant forms a blue shift.

message 14: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
Its the opposite for something being pushed IN.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh ok

message 16: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
And yes, James, you are right. Humans have been around a short time when compared to Earth's life, and earth has been around such a short time compared to the Universe, that we really don't know squat. All we have is theories based on knowledge gathered from historical facts, and gathering from evidence of what might have happened then.

but like i said before be don't know if it is ever speeding up or just a cycle.

message 18: by Lela (new)

Lela | 49 comments Interesting guys! Are you learning this in Biology? If you are that's TOTALLY unfair cause I'm in Biology and we're learning about the structure of cells by taking notes on powerpoints. Which is BORING!

message 19: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) are you in a private religious school or summat?

message 20: by James, that one kid (last edited Nov 10, 2008 01:52PM) (new)

message 23: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
That stinks. I thought you had to teach the theories as part of the curriculum at school. I bet it's on the core test.

James (methatonekid) | 62 comments Mod
Its not in her books... and it is a Law I think in some states...

message 25: by Lela (new)

Lela | 49 comments Funny thing: At murray high (my sister's there) they handed out the textbooks and then took them back, took out a chapter and let them have them again...it's the chapter about human reproduction. And in my 9th grade biology class we have 2 chapters on things related to that...one in full detail...she's a senior, i'm a 9th grader, tell me how that isn't a little messed up!

message 26: by Kenny, HI! (new)

Kenny (kjamesmobile) | 98 comments Mod
Wow, seriously? In High School we have to take a huge course on the reproductive system and the process (In case you don't get the hint, I mean Sex Ed.), but they took a chapter of it out of a TEXT BOOK?!? Are you serious? I wonder how bad it was, seeing as it was taken out... I bet it's just grown-ups being stupid, thinking we can't handle stuff. We gotta grow up someday though (Well, not Lela. I meant the NON-handicapped people).

Lol, kidding lela!

message 27: by Lela (new)

Lela | 49 comments huh? can you rephrase that?

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Half of my family has red hair and it's beautiful, the other half of the family, including me, has plain brown hair. Not that I don't like my hair but brown and black is so common here. My father, brother and older sister stand out from the crowd and people are just drawn to them.
