Saw this on another group and thought it was interesting and wanted to hear your answers! :)

the question was.." So, many of us may have crushes on actors etc... but what character from a book has made you go to mush inside? I mean before the book was made into the movie - and how do you picture them?"

message 2: by Katerina (new)

Katerina | 252 comments haha this is funny..i think when i was little i had a crush on one of the boys in little house in the prarie but i can't remember his name. and i get the edward cullen thing..even though he's a fictional vampire..you still have to crush on him.

message 3: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) ah yes.... I'm with the rest of you ladies in thinking that Edward Cullen is amazing!I had a HUGE, slightly obsessive crush on him while reading Twilight. I think I even had a dream about him once, haha.
Now that the movie is coming out and there is a face to the infamous name, I'm 50/50 on how I feel about that. I'm glad theyre making a movie and eager to see how it translates, but putting the characters to big screen might wreck the image I conjured of them in my head while reading the books.
we'll see...

message 4: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I hate to admit that I had a crush on Edward too. It's something about the old fashioned, gentlemanly thing that he's got going on.
Also, I must say that I have a crush on Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.

message 5: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Haha Kels that's awesome that you had a crush on Ron Weasley!

I have to agree with Anastasia, I'm kind of torn with the movie coming out. They didn't get Edward right, which was the biggest disappointment. But they didn't get Bella and Alice right in my mind. The closet one was Emmett.

But anyways, back to Edward...the old fashion and gentleman attitude does make him sexy. Plus everything he says to Bella, it makes me want to die!

I have to admit another one of my book (and movie) crushes would be Legolas from Lord of the Rings.

message 6: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Had I been older when the movies came out I think I would have had more of a crush on Aragorn, he was definitely worthy.

I have to agree that Lord of the Rings was one of Bloom's best movies, other than Elizabethtown. But even then they could have used someone differently.

message 7: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Oh, Aragorn. He was definitely a fine, fine man. His eyes are gorgeous.

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Kels,
I sort of crushed on Fred and George Weasley in the Potter books. I just have something for a funny guy. Nothing serious.

message 9: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie "I think I have brief love affairs with all the characters in all the stories I read"

Kate, I 100% agree!

message 10: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie it's sometimes like that with movies too. Sometimes. but the visual component has to be there too and w/ books, I control the visual component. :]

i'm the same way kate! and lynn..i'm with you on the movie thing..i do that alot with tv shows..for example..seth from the OC..yep..we are pretty much dating. haha. :)

message 12: by Kami (new)

Kami | 15 comments I had a crush on Garrett Blake in "Message in a Bottle"- if a real man could write love letters like that, wow. Edward Cullen obviously. I really loved Kartik from the Gemma Doyle trilogy too. I loved how the relationship developed between him and Gemma. Definately had a crush on him.

message 13: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
ooh i can't wait to read the Gemma Doyle trilogy..i just bought the first book a few weeks ago!

message 14: by Kami (new)

Kami | 15 comments so.good. I'm reading AGATB right now- for the fifth time. I absolutely love the series.

message 15: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments I've read the first book in the series, and I'm about halfway through Rebel Angels now. It's kinda boring where I'm at in the book right now, so I stopped it to read our EL&EC. Maybe I should start it back up asap!

message 16: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I bought A Great and Terrible Beauty a really long time ago, and I started it, but it was written in present tense and that bothers the crap out of me. Like "I am running down the street. I ask this guy this. He tells me this." I just can't get past that. I'm sure I will read it eventually though.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Haha Kels..isn't it funny the things we find that bother us when reading? i always find things like that that really bother me when im reading and i can't get over it sometimes to finish reading something.

message 18: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I know! Haha. It's like...I know it's probably a good story if I can just get past that!

message 19: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (target) I hate those books. I've got a thing against them that is hard for me to get over.

And my book crush has to be Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files. :P

message 20: by Lauren (last edited Dec 01, 2008 09:06PM) (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Well I've finished a few other books that I was halfway through... so now I'm going to try to get through Rebel Angels even though I remember when I stopped it was pretty boring. We'll see what happens..

Not necessarily a book crush..but I'm pretty sure I have a little crush on jonathan safran foer.. :)

After listening to him read part of the first chapter on that clip that I posted..I'd say I have a crush. haha

message 22: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) As do I, Jamie. He reminds me of my boyfriend, minus the whole he-actually-reads thing. But yes, I was a little heartbroken when I found out he had a wife. Haha.

message 23: by Emily (new)

Emily Okay I might not be thinking of the same little house book as you, Katerina but there was one about Laura's husband (Almanzo) that i remember....i don't think i had a crush on him, but i do remember liking him.

Childhood crushes:
Curdie from Curdie and the Princess(by George Macdonald)
Huck from Huck Finn
Joe from the Betsy Tacy books.
The Prince from Ella Enchanted (don't remember his name)
The boy from A Wrinkle in Time (also don't remember his name)

I can't say that I've been as attached to a character since elementary age days....

message 24: by Erin (new)

Erin Ok so better then Twilight is Anita Blake(from Guilty Pleasures)... There is this one character later on in the series who is really just on the side, but wow! The other characters are amazing too. Lots of hunky guys to fall for either were or vamp. But year back to the one. He's a were-lion with cookie monster blue hair, which got him the nickname cookie monster. He has the hots for Anita and when he finds out she nick named him Cookie monster in her head he informs her he has the cookie monster tattooed on his body. I'm not sure if I just imagined it on his bum or if he did share this as well. Anita wasn't really into him so he kinda disappeared, but I'm waiting to see if there is another book coming out to see if he comes back... Gah so HOT!

And I stand by if you like Twilight(especially if it has to do with Edward) you need to pick my brain for all the Preternatural books I read because I got some men for you! Sadly, my father has picked up on my tastes and he recently handed me Hotter Than Hell. Oh that was so embarrassing... My dad basically handed me porn...

Hotter Than Hell is a good book though! Some good tales. Kim Harrison is an amazing writer and did great on the editing.Laurell K. Hamilton and her are both referenced on some of the up and coming books. I think they both have taken spots as amazing writers.

message 26: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'd have to say that I have had a major crush on Rhett Butler since I saw the movie Gone With the Wind. But when I read the book a few weeks later, my love and adoration for him deepened. I'm also having a huge crush on Jack (or Jacques) from Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. And, of course, from what little I've read of it, I have a thing of Dr. Darcy as well.

message 27: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 29, 2009 06:27AM) (new)

Great topic!

All time book crush would have to be Sirius Black from the Harry Potter series. I LOVE him, for so many reasons.
1. He escaped from Azkaban.
2. He is on the run from the Ministry of Magic.
3. He can turn into a dog.
4. He is a wizard.
5. He's really brave. He helps Harry a lot, he would have done anything for him.
6. When he was at Hogwarts, he was obviously a bit of a rebel- writing the Marauders Map, etc. Unfortunately, he was obviously a complete cac head while at Hogwarts too.

Ah, if only he existed in real life...

message 28: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker He's a good one.

I also forgot Count Vronsky! I'm only about halfway through Anna Karenina (so don't tell me if he turns out to be a butthead) but I ignore the physical description and make him into an insanely handsome man.

message 29: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Haha Roisu, I love your list. I adore Sirius as well! =)

message 30: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Seems like I have had so many book crushes, most recently Henry DeTamble, in books and real life I'm never attracted to the right kind of guy.

message 31: by Kimberly (last edited Mar 29, 2009 09:57PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I love this topic!

-Professor Lupin from Harry Potter. Not so much how he looks in the movie, but I LOVED him in the book. :)
-Marek from Timeline
-Mr. Darcy

message 32: by Molly (new)

Molly (slinkyxo) | 153 comments Seems like alot of you have crushes on people from Harry Potter! lol

message 33: by Katerina (new)

Oh my gosh..I am so embarrassed that I had a crush on Edward Cullen when I first read Twilight. I think I grew out of that one after the first book. He was intriguing at first. Then he became a possessive weirdo. I think I agree with Kelsey..it was the old fashioned, gentleman thing going on with him.

message 35: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Oh and I totally had a crush on Laurie from Little Women when he grew up.

message 36: by Adriana (new)

Adriana | 188 comments From the book Twilight, I have to admit that I never liked Edward. My crush was on Jacob. I have to admit that I have a think for guys that have long hair and are taned.

Another character I had a crush on was on Peeta from the Hunger Games, he was everything a girl like me would want and he knows how to bake, that is always a plus.

message 37: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I still love Rhett Butler. The other crushes have fallen by the wayside, but Rhett is still there.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Anyone got a penchant for Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights? Another character I've had a crush on. He's so mysterious, and brooding, and, well, a complete asshole to tell the truth, but he had good reasons to be!

message 39: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I know mine is slightly strange but I can't help it. I have a thing for Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series. He's so dark and sarcastic, he's overall attitude and depth just appealed to me.

message 40: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I had a crush on Mr. Darcy for awhile, especially after watching the newer movie. Oh man. As one of my friends so aptly put it, that man is basically "distilled lust."

I also had a thing for Halloween from Idlewild and Edenborn. And Jesse from My Sister's Keeper. I guess that was my bad-boy phase, though admittedly Halloween eventually grew out of that and they were both pretty sweet under their hard exteriors.

Also, and I'm not quite sure if this fits here, but I really loved Cain from the play Children of Eden. And I sort of had a lady-crush on Eve. And Yonah. Yeah.

message 41: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments "distilled lust." haha, I love it!

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments Edward is obviously a given. I actually went through withdrawals after I finished Twilight. That's pitiful.

I read a lot of sweet romance books, so I always end up falling for the main guy.

Anyone read the Hourglass Door? I LOVE THAT BOOK! I fell for Dante.

message 43: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Jana I think you're the only one who will get this, but I totally had a crush on Mark from Hearts in Hiding. :)

Peeta, from Hunger Games is another. I liked him even more after Catching Fire.
Percy from Scarlet Pimpernel (though that might have more to do with the movie...)

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments Oh, Kimberly I totally did too! *dreamy sigh* Gotta love a sweethearted (I know... that's not a word!) FBI man! I've got a lot of crushes on the men in books of Betsey Brannon Green! And... Traci Hunter Abramson. Have you read I'll Find You by Claire Poulson? Gosh. I need a man like our book men!

message 45: by Kayla (last edited Nov 04, 2009 08:22AM) (new)

Kayla | 604 comments Jana, I love romance novels too! They're my guilty pleasure. My mom got me into them when I was in the 5th grade! Ha, ha ;)

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments Oh, Kayla... a girl after my own heart. lol. I think I started on them around the same time you did! Guilty pleasure sounds so awful, but it's true! Haha!

message 47: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Jana, sweethearted is most definitely word. I'm going to use that! Yes I have read I'll Find You! And Traci Hunter Abramson, loved Royal Target!

message 48: by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (last edited Nov 04, 2009 05:05PM) (new)

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments See, I think it's a word but my browser said it wasn't... so I dunno! Haha! Royal Target is AMAZING. I loved it! Of course, I had a book crush on the prince. *sigh*

message 49: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) My book crushes include Mr. Darcy, Bill Denbrough (from Stephen King's IT), Ron Weasley and Jacob Black. It makes me seem a little nerdy, but seriously, if any of these characters existed, I'd be in heaven!

message 50: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie | 58 comments When I finally read Peter Pan, I realized that some of the boys I've dated are Peter. That kind of counts...

I was pretty enthralled with Zooey from Franny and Zooey: the intellectualism, the smoking, and the description of his looks fit what I wanted.
