I confess my ignorance. What are the rulez for nominations? Any restrictions? Can I nominate an Indie Author's book if he's Irish? If so, I'd like to nominate The Baptist by Ruby Barnes
Thanks for that, Sarah. I think it's only fair to point out that The Baptist is an e-book (but available in just about every format!)
You're welcome, Ruby. So my ignorance extends itself...I had no idea ppl here were reading paper books LOL I honestly thought the point of Goodreads was to gather and share eBooks. I mean this is a WEB SITE, right? Ah, I'm such a n00b at book / reading clubs. I always read way too fast for others to keep up and I talk ten times too much before anyone's gotten a chance to finish. In other words, I ruin the ending so I tend to shy away from discussion and keep my good connections intact.-sry
I admit that I'm still mostly reading paperbacks (The Green Mile currently, just finished Black Water Rising and The Road), but my wife has bought me a Kindle for Christmas so things might change a bit.In fact, a lot of buzz about e-reading devices in Ireland this Christmas.
Don't you peeps have smartphones? Between Blackberry + iPhone or Android, I thought the European markets had started e-reading on phones like the Japanese. Well, not really like the Japanese; no one does it quite like them but they've been e-reading on Smartphones since around 2000 :-) We Americans were still learning to text back then! Actually I was living in Israel in 2000 and we were texting, sexting and video messaging by then, but the US did not yet have still picture phones. Did Ireland by then ?I'd be really surprised to hear that more peoples (in Ireland) are not using a Smartphone to read eBooks than any kind of dedicated reader device (Kindle or similar) or even the tablets, though maybe Blackberry Play since it auto-synchs ur BB devices for you :) I lust after a BB. Can u tell? Had one from work in1999 and again in 2003 and have always wanted a personal BB but the contract's too much for me.
I would like to nominate
by Colum McCann.See
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMvOwE...#! for an interview with the writer. It is a fascinating book set in 1970's New York. The story integrates the lives of a number of very intriguing characters including a radical young Irish monk, who may be either saint or just mentally deranged or both, an African American prostitute, a small group of mothers in mourning and more. The book received the 2009 National Book Award for fiction.
Oh dear me I find myself on the horns of big spiky dilemma. I'd love to nominate one of my own but I feel somehow that would be shameful. What think yee. Is that a step too far?

David, I'm not the moderator but I don't think it is. I was having the same dilemma last month but Sarah did it this month without me knowing (thanks Sarah).

I see no harm in people nominating their own work. I would worry though, that the group would become a sales platform for authors. So far, all of the self nominations have been made by active members which is perfectly acceptable. Maybe in the future I'll put restrictions on the nominations, but I think it would be totally unfair to move the goalposts with only a few hours of nominations left.
The timeline has expired and this thread has been closed to nominations.
